Best Balance Boards

1. Indo Board Original

Read Reviews & Buy on
With a beautiful design, the Indo Board Original is amazingly highly rated by customers who have bought it. In addition to the sleek look, the board is well made and rolls smoothly on the “virtually indestructible” roller it comes with.
Expand to see more
Design/ Specialty
This is a flat oval board which rests on the roller without a track or other form of attachment. The balance board has a little texture added to the top so that you won’t slip off. The oval design means you won’t accidentally damage furniture or yourself with sharp edges, and you get to feel like a surfer catching the waves!

Functionality/ Use
Indo Board has a smooth function that doesn’t get caught up, or hitched on anything. Sure, this means it could all come crashing down, but that just makes it that much more exciting! There are consequences for not maintaining the core; if there’s no danger there, how can you expect to improve? It’s not exactly for beginners, but once you get the hang of it you might be replacing your couch with a set of Indo Boards.

Cost/ Value
It has a relatively high cost, but the quality is second to none. This is not going to snap on you, and it looks great even when the kids keep leaving it out on the living room floor. If you want the best of the best, and don’t mind paying a few bucks extra, here you go.
Pros
  • High quality
  • Cool look
  • Smooth function
Cons
  • Expensive

2. Isokinetics Deluxe

Read Reviews & Buy on
When you are a beginner, you want to make sure you can jump right into your strength training on a balance board. And if you have never used a wobble board or balance board before, why spend tons of money on one? Here you you have your beginning level board for the right price.
Expand to see more
Design/ Specialty
A disc shaped wobble board, this option adjusts so you can make it more difficult as you get better. There is a removable half-ball under the disc, that when attached, gives more wobble room and therefore makes the core workout harder. Instead of buying a beginning board, and then upgrading, you can get the two for one deal. And the best part it, this type of board is all once piece, so you won’t go toppling over and crashing down.

Functionality/ Use
A 360 degree workout, you can tilt forward, back, and side to side, making sure it hits every muscle group in your body. This gives you more options for what to work, stretch, or strengthen, compared to the tilt boards which seesaw over an axis.

Cost/ Value
The Isokinetics Deluxe Board is much more affordable than other options. Plus you get the two for one design which adjusts to become more difficult! If value is what you are after, thinking maybe you don’t need all the jazziness of a more expensive board, this will not disappoint.
Pros
  • Inexpensive
  • Adjustable for to difficulty levels
Cons
  • Not as advanced

Design/ specialty
This baby can take up to 350 pounds of weight, so needless to say, it is top quality. A disc shaped board, this one leaves you free to gyrate like Elvis. The three settings are transitioned between easily, and over slants of 15, 17, or 20 degrees. This is for serious, heavy users.

Functionality/ Use
The different angles give you options for just how much core you want to work on. The benefit of the disc shaped balance board is that it should help you from completely wiping out, although on those tougher setting, I might move away from the China cabinet. Work your way to the hardest level, or keep it on an easier setting after your long run.

Cost/ Value
This is a solid middle of the road price. With the three different settings, the Fitter First 16’’ Pro is an amazing value for anyone who already knows how to balance, but might want to advance their core and balance skills.
Pros
  • 3 different settings for difficulty
  • Solid wood construction with thick board
Cons
  • Not for beginners

4. Theraband

Read Reviews & Buy on
The TheraBand balance board is all one strong plastic piece, which tilts two ways at a 30 degree angle. It is made of a durable molded plastic, and is the perfect option for including other exercises and weight training while you balance, just to add to the core workout.
Expand to see more
Design/ Specialty
The no slip surface means you can focus on balance, and forget about footing. Because it tilts front and back, it focuses on fewer core muscles at a time, which makes it more targeted. With the solid surface, you can add weights and other exercises with ease. Drop down and do some stabilizing pushups too, by holding onto each end of the board with your hands.

Functionality/ Use
Easy to use because it is so straightforward, but also fun to customize with a 37 exercise guide included that explains all the different uses for the TheraBand balance board. Works well for adding resistance bands.

Cost/ Value
We are getting into the lower end on the price tag here, but it still is not cheap. Since it is all one piece of plastic it is strong, while being able to keep the price down.
Pros
  • Integrates well with other exercises
  • Focuses on one plane of instability at a time
Cons
  • Easy to master
  • Small for some users

5. Whirly Board Spinning

Read Reviews & Buy on
Here’s one for the cool kids! The Whirly Board Spinning Balance Board looks like a skateboard and is most definitely fun. Expect it to be more difficult though and require more skill.
Expand to see more
Design/ Specialty
On the underside of the “skateboard” surface are one large center ball and two smaller outer balls. The center one provides the main pivot, while the outer one keep the range of motion within reason. The coolest part with the Whirly Board is that you can spin around on the central axis. This makes it a hybrid between a disc shaped wobble board with a ball for balance, and a board shaped balance board with only front or back tilt.

Functionality/ Use
The Whirly Board still focuses on two way planes of balance, but adds another dimension with the ball for balance, versus a roller like the Indo Board. This board is not for beginners, and definitely won’t be mastered easily! This one is especially helpful for all sorts of board sports, but improving spatial awareness is another benefit.

Cost/ Value
The price is getting up there again with Whirly Boards, but they do look super cool in addition to their versatility. With all the different targeted muscles, tricks, and just plain fun, this is one board you can be sure to get your money’s worth out of.
Pros
  • Fun to use
  • Not easily mastered
Cons
  • Too difficult for beginners
  • Targeted more for board sports
