Nike Free RN Motion Flyknit Facts

Nike Free was introduced back in 2004 with a name that says so much. Being free leaves many runners to wonder “can we really move as we desire to move?” And the Nike brand of course answered with its quality and product performance.

When it comes to a good running shoe Nike never seems to miss a beat and with the Nike Free RN Motion Flyknit this isn’t any different. In fact it just proves just how phenomenal this athletic brand is. The Free line of Nike shoes were developed to mirror the barefoot feel as if you were walking on air. According to some, Nike picked up this genius idea after hearing that Stanford athletes enjoyed training on their barefoot. And get this, not just any place, on golf courses. The Free line of shoes are so flexible and have been on my top of my favorite running shoes list.

Pros
  • The fit well to the form of the feet and are very comfortable
  • The breathability is definitely worth mentioning
  • They are simple, easy to put on & and take off
  • They have great flexibility
Cons
  • Not very stable due to it's all-around material
  • This shoe is a bit on the high end regarding price
Outsole
Outsole

Outsole

At first glance, Nike introduces us to a new innovative geometric pattern that just screams flexibility to the outsole. The flexible movement works great with every stride. It creates a more of a second skin-like feel, something that is just unbeatable. The craziest part about the shoe would have to be its sole. The insane pattern is the key focus. The pattern could be described as a tri-star pattern.

The foam is cut into this tri-star pattern that starts off with more square larger pieces of foam, then to more geometric shaped slits that helps to create a more stylish outsole. Nike engineers came up with this tri-star pattern for the sake of a better yet natural running experience. The pattern looks exactly like connected triangles in a web. Nike believes that this sole gives your feet full control because this superb pattern is all about impact by following length and width growth ratio. Some even call the sole auxetic, but others beg to differ because the expansion on impact is hardly felt, yet they are incredibly flexible.
Midsole
Midsole

Midsole

The midsole on this shoe is all about flexibility with its Free RN Motion. This two-layered midsole is very similar to Nike’s last year release of the Free RN Distance, it acts as one unit. The very top of the midsole causes the foot to sit in a molded structure. This very same molded sidewall is contoured to support the arch under the foot.
Upper
Upper

Upper

The Flyknit material is so very durable consisting of stitched together fibers built with strength to make sure that the shoe is light, full of support and shapes directly to the form of your foot, with great comfortability. The complete design of the upper makes it hard to believe that you’re even wearing shoes. There’s no glue panels or stitched panels providing a much more sleek upper than most other running shoes. The Flyknit makes it so much easier to put the shoe on. Keeping in mind that there is no tongue available.

In fact, there’s just a piece of cloth that holds the foot in place with stretchy material. The heel even is Flyknit. However, there is a thicker fabric that helps the shoe to maintain strength and shape. Nike also, uses Flywire technology to make the Nike Free RN Motion Flyknit. It creates a snug fit by connecting to the Flyknit upper between the sole and the laces. Sadly because of this, it can cause a little movement inside the shoe especially if there are any lateral movement. The Nike Free RN Motion Flyknit are great for casual runners, but maybe not so much for those who need more lateral stability or a lot more responsiveness.
Weight
Weight

Weight

Nike Free RN Motion Flyknit are extremely lightweight. You can even ball the shoe up and pack it in your bag if you need to. For men the shoe is 7.9 oz. Women’s are 6.3 oz.
Breathability

Breathability

The Flyknit material combined with the Flywire technology offers a breathability coverage that you will love. It definitely ensures both dry and cool runs. Most runners who running quite a long distance can appreciate running shoes that help to combat sweaty feet. Especially, if you always have a sweat issue in all weather conditions. The breathability in Nike Free RN Motion Flyknit is great. There have been no complaints about the breathability of these shoes for those who have purchased them in the past.
Comfort
Comfort

Comfort

The fit of the Nike Free RN Motion couldn’t be more comfortable. It runs a little bigger than your normal size so it’s a good idea to by true to size or a half size down. There is clearly a lot of space in the forefoot that will give your toes a great deal of space. I love more room in any shoe. There’s no worse feeling than having your toes feeling tight or balled up in the front of your shoe. Thankfully, the shoe comes in medium width but they seem much wider with a sock-like feel. Now that’s a comfortable way to run!

They come in very vibrant colors for women and of course, darker more neutral colors for men. Great for a more casual on-the-go look for everyday wear. It is all about preference when it comes to picking out what colors work best for you.

Some runners love some of the most vibrant weird colors ever thought of, but others just want something plain to put on and run in. They just want something that are easy to put on, look good and are comfortable. In this case, Nike Free RN Motion Flyknit can be found in mixed colors. On the Nike official website you can also design your own pair.
Durability
Durability

Durability

Some of the best running shoes have to be durable. That’s like going to a movie and you only see the credits. You miss a great deal out of a good running shoe if durability is lacking. For the most part you want a shoe that can hold up under any condition. In this case, Nike designed these shoes so that runners can run as they want. The word “free” sums it all up. Nike Free RN Motion Flyknit are durable running shoes because they are flexible, sturdy and lightweight. Durability is exceptional. What more can a runner ask for?
Protection

Protection

Running shoes should always protect your foot. There really isn’t another way around that. Protection is a good attribute for great running shoes. Nike Free RN Motion Flyknit offers good protection with its combination of materials: Nike’s Flywire technology and Flyknit. These materials adds support around the entire foot so that it forms the foot. The sock-like feeling leaves you wondering if you even have a shoe on.
Responsiveness
Responsiveness

Responsiveness

On a scale from 0-5, responsiveness would be around a 3 only because they are more of a casual running shoe. Most runners love that they are comfortable, but often question the shoes’ stability while running. Yes, we all want a perfect running shoe, but if you weigh the pros and cons of the Nike Free RN Flyknit the pros certainly out way the cons.

Terrain

You can definitely consider these shoes as casual running shoes. They are good for basic surfaces and conditions. Would not recommend too much long runs, but if you enjoy jogging short distances then they are perfect.

Price

Price

On the Nike official website, Nike Free RN Motion Flyknit are priced at $150. For some runners they hope to find these comfortable running shoes for a much cheaper price. They can be found as low as $80-90 on some sites. Again quality usually makes a runner go out and buy great running shoes. Yes, the price tag might seem a bit hefty but there are runners that are willing to pay a lot for shoes, while others aren’t as eager. In fact, they prefer a sale over anything and who could really blame them. Nothing beats a good deal when it comes to buying running gear.
Traction
Traction

Traction

These casual running shoes are good for casual use. Not so much used in all conditions. They are good for jogging on basic surfaces: dirt, concrete, tracks and grass. Definitely, there is versatility in the traction. Works well in the gym. The casual feel just gives runners a natural feel that is needed for most on an everyday basis.
Flexibility
Flexibility

Flexibility

Nike Free RN Motion FlyKnit puts the “f” in flexibility. These running shoes are so lightweight and designed in such a way that the shoe can be balled up. That’s how flexible these shoes are. The heel is very thin so it makes flexibility even easier. The way that Nike designed the bottom sole with triangular web like features there’s no wonder why these shoes are so flexible. They are great for packing away for a trip or throwing them in a gym bag as you walk out the door. When it comes to flexibility of these casual running shoes, Nike did not let us down. If anything runners are going to be even more surprised at the level of durability, comfortable and flexibility the Nike Free RN Motion Flyknit actually provides.
Stability
Stability

Stability

Nike always makes tons of running shoes that have a high level of stability. Some runners seem to think that Nike Free RN Motion Flyknit are on the lower level of stability, especially when it comes to lateral movements. They are good for basic casual use, but not as stable as expected. Not all running shoes can be perfect.
Drop
Drop

Drop

Staying true to a Nike Free experience, the shoe is extremely light and flexible with a 4mm drop made up of a majority of foam on the bottom. Working on the offset of 8mm drop which means that the shoe has 16mm in the forefoot and 24mm in the heel stacked. For most runners, the heel will feel very flat, but caters to more midfoot runners who don’t care for much of a heel. Personally, bulky heels just feel like added weight. No one wants a shoe that feels like you’re being weighed done like a brick of ice. Something that some runners can do without. For me, the lighter the shoe, the better.

Bottom Line

When you think about Nike Free RN Motion Flyknit think of casual running. They are great to slip on when you going for a quick last minute jog, running errands or you just want to throw something comfortable on your feet. They are one of the most comfortable shoes I’ve seen in a long time. They are so easy to put on while you’re running out because they are extremely lightweight, it feels like you barely have anything on.

Anything that makes you feel like you’re walking on air is not a bad thing at all, especially if you’re the type of person who generally loves walking around the house barefooted than with Nike’s Free RN Motion Flyknit you’re in great company. The Nike Free RN Motion Flyknit is a solid running shoe that are made for casual usage. If you love less heavy material and a very flexible shoe than look no further.
