The Vew-Do company is a good example of this; they come out with a product called the nub recently. The Nub is a curved board that sits on the floors; you can rock it back and forth, practice carving on it and practice flipping tricks with it. It was made to help snowboarders and skateboarders improve their skills while at home. But also from the reviews i read a lot of people said that children have tons of fun playing on it and people who were worried about falling off a traditional balance board said they enjoyed the Nub.

Balance boards with and without stoppers on the bottom of the boards can shoot out from under you and be launched into the air with such high velocity they can easily damage walls, smash thought windows, bust up TVs, explode fine china or knock out a spectators teeth.

Balances boards are best used in an area where flying board cannot do any damage such as a basement. Also keep in mind most balances boards should not be used on concrete because it will put more wear and tear on them.

Balanced boards should not be used on indoor flooring that can be damaged easily, like wood floors. Even when using a balance board correctly there are going to be times when the balance board comes slamming down into the ground this will eventually damage the flooring.

Use a piece of old carpet or an area rug while training on your balance board to help prevent damage to the flooring and the balance board.

The banging sound a balance board makes when slamming into the floor may be annoying to people on the floor directly below you and get them so annoyed that they start banging on the ceiling to show you their frustration. (This may or may not be from personal experience)
