Adidas Supernova Trail Review Facts
Adidas has shoes for every occasion. Want to run an ultra marathon? Covered. Triathlon? Covered. Strolling through town with your bestie? Covered. With over 90 years of experience in shoes, both performance and lifestyle, Adidas is one of the strongest names in the business. They have stretched innovation over every inch of the shoe and still put more into it. Even before becoming Adidas, Adi Dassler and his brother were titans on the shoe scene. Olympic athletes were wearing their homegrown brand! After they parted ways, Adi started Adidas and they have grown exponentially ever since. From apparel to accessories, they have explored every possible benefit to the athlete and adjusted their design to reflect. With that level of focus, Adidas has now introduced the Supernova Trail shoe.
The Adidas Supernova Trail is a shoe built for comfort on the rockiest of courses. If you’ve ever intentionally run a trail or wandered into one by accident, you know that there are rocks, twigs, branches, bushes and all manner of debris along the way. You may have come even closer to that debris than you would have liked. With that being a strong possibility, Adidas has built additional stability into this design and added water repellent materials as well as arch support and cushion that you can depend on for a daily jaunt through the wilderness. Not only are Supernova Trail shoes pleasant to look at, they are a comfortable, smooth ride.
The continental rubber outsole on the Adidas Supernova Trail shoe provides superior traction over all kinds of terrain. The trademarked Traxion technology resembles a mountain bike
tire. There are small knobbies on the sides and additional traction is made with contrast between that and the smooth middle. The rubber in combination with the midfoot design improves surface adaptability, allowing you to run on any terrain and in any conditions, whether mud, rain or clear and dry with plenty of debris and obstacles to overcome.
Adidas’s EVA foam midsole features a responsive cushioning experience that energizes while stabilizing the runner’s stride for better power both up and down hills. The Dual-density Boost cushioning on the Supernova Trail shoe is on the medial side, providing energized stability for a smooth, responsive
ride. The Torsion technology Adidas employs here allows for a natural rotation between the rearfoot and forefoot. This improves surface adaptability in combination with the design of the rubber outsole.
The synthetic leather and mesh upper is abrasion-resistant, making the Adidas Supernova Trail shoe extremely lightweight and durable as well as breathable. Incorporating a seam-free waterline into the upper design protects the shoe and foot in wet conditions while still allowing increased airflow through the shoe to assist with evaporation of both sweat and external moisture
. With such a sturdy construct, this upper is durable and adds stability unlike other mesh designs. The mesh upper provides a very breathable comfort.
The Adidas Supernova Trail shoe is described as a lightweight
shoe. It weighs just around 13 ounces in a size 9. The breathable mesh upper and EVA foam keeps this shoe lightweight without sacrificing quality or performance. Each attribute reduces potential weight. Add to that the balanced design to create stability and this shoe wears even lighter than the scale says.
Featuring a lightweight mesh upper with a seam-free waterline, the Adidas Supernova Trail shoes allow fresh air flow into the shoe to keep feet cool while protecting
from both sweat and external water. The additional breathability encourages water evaporation as soon as moisture is present so that your run won’t feel waterlogged and heavy. This constructed upper allows Adidas to keep it lightweight and comfortable. Even on a longer run up and down the mountain in the middle of summer, runners won't be complaining of sweaty feet.
Considering the fact that the Adidas Supernova Trail shoe is made for running through rough terrain, this shoe is exceedingly comfortable. The Dual-density Boost cushioning provides stability over any diverse terrain while the support and premium cushioning from the EVA midsole in combination with the Torsion system at the midfoot allows for natural rotation and surface adaptability and maximum comfort
. The AdiPrene shock absorbers in the heel and under the forefoot give maximum heel protection and stability while rerouting the natural propulsive forces and reducing leg and ankle strain and foot fatigue. The additional stability, support and cushion combined with the breathable mesh upper gives an extremely cushioned experience over whichever route you choose to take.
The design of the Adidas Supernova Trail shoe makes you think retro at first glance but the thought fades away quickly the more you look at it. The first thing you’ll notice is the significant tread
on the outsole of the shoe. It’s very clear that these shoes are designed to do some serious work outdoors. The second more noticeable aspect is that the Supernova Trail isn’t super colorful. With a black base, white midsole, purple laces and stripes, there is only a pink accent on the heel and toe tabs and the transition from midsole to insole. The heel cup is also the pink accent color but otherwise, that’s it for color. The focus on this shoe is on the performance and functionality, not the outward appearance.
With that in mind, the waterproofing around the upper adds a slight shine to the toe and around the base but it blends smoothly with the black of the mesh upper. The forefoot is slightly wider, quite comfortable for those who typically need to buy a wider model, but that’s only barely noticeable from a glance at the outside of the shoe. The lace system weaves through the tongue pull, giving the Supernova Trail a solid, put together appearance.
The Adidas Supernova Trail is every inch an Adidas product. They have put their technological and innovative designers to the test and created a comfortable, performing, durable shoe
. They built the upper with a tighter weave and a seam-proof waterline to reduce damage due to wet conditions, fraying from external seams, and debris wedging into smaller areas, avoiding any additional concerns with the shoe. They addressed the demanding terrain with a thicker, Continental Rubber and paired it with Traxion technology outsoles that take the expertise of the mountain biking industry to create a strong, versatile and amazingly flexible outsole that will continue to support your run for many, many miles to come.
When a company focuses on performance to the extent that Adidas does, their secondary focus has to be on protection. They want their athletes and customers to continue to wear their shoes so they have to take care of their feet and bodies in any way they can. The Adidas Supernova Trail shoe does exactly that.
The synthetic leather and mesh uppers are built to breathe but also support at the same time. They feature a seam-free waterline that protects the foot from water, reducing potential blisters and chafing, and reducing the potential of obstacles damaging the shoe and, ultimately, your foot. The mesh design keeps debris and dirt out of the shoe so no rubbing or blistering is present on your run as well.
AdiPrene shock absorbers in the heel allow for maximum protection and stability and are found again under the forefoot to harness the natural propulsive forces your body exerts with toe off. The impact on your feet and legs is greatly reduced by this feature. The early foot fatigue you may feel on the uphill portion of your run is nearly non-existent as your foot is not working as hard. The shock of your heel strike is also reduced with the extra cushioning and shock absorption.
The Adidas Supernova Trail is a responsive trail running shoe. It features an EVA cushioning along the midsole as well as AdiPrene shock absorbers in the heel and under the forefoot. The addition of the heel protection and the harnessing of natural propulsive forces of the forefoot takes the energy that is being pushed into the ground with the fall of your foot and energizes that into the toe off. Thus, giving a feeling of the ground pushing back into your leg, requiring less energy and saving your foot from early fatigue.
The synthetic and leather mesh upper on the Adidas Supernova Trail shoe is lightweight yet remains supportive over the entire foot. They’ve added the seam-free waterline for additional protection in wet conditions but the solid construct of the surround also holds tight to the foot. Shock absorbers in the heel are built in such a way that they hold the heel steady while providing protection and stability. The Torsion system in the midfoot holds steady while allowing a natural rotation between the rearfoot and forefoot, improving both surface adaptability and foot flex, reducing foot strain and fatigue. The Traxion outsoles have a unique design for additional grip on a variety of terrain and the construct of the rubber allows for superior traction. Not only does the Supernova Trail shoe provide sufficient traction, but it allows for a good grip on any challenging terrain, reducing potential for injuries and falls.
The Adidas Supernova Trail shoe is pretty clear about where it likes to be. This shoe is a trail shoe. The additional traction on the outsole makes it obvious from first glance. It can also be used on loose gravel tracks or dirt roads. It could be used for mud runs and obstacle course tracks. With the additional waterline, even some water events could be acceptable.
Adidas shoes come in every range in price from extremely affordable to extremely high-end. The Adidas Supernova Trail shoe is a slightly higher priced trail shoe but it is well worth the expense with the technology that is included, such as the years of experience behind the manufacturer of the shoe and the extreme comfort that is built into the ride. With all of that in mind, this shoe is priced right where it should be.
The Adidas Supernova Trail shoe has a unique traction design. They use Traxion outsoles that look like mountain bike tire tread. The knobbies on the sides with the smooth middle add additional traction on any variety of terrain. Couple that with the Stretchweb technology Adidas has thrown in and the Continental Rubber on the outsole and this shoe almost sticks to the ground as you travel.
The EVA foam of the midfoot on the Adidas Supernova Trail shoe is already plenty flexible, but that’s not even half of it. The shock AdiPrene in the forefoot and heel is a flexible substance that transfers energy while reducing effort on behalf of the runner and the Stretchweb outsole with rubber base will flex with the terrain and the natural movement of the foot without sacrificing any traction.
As a trail shoe, the Adidas Supernova Trail should provide some extra stability. In this case, it most certainly does. The AdiPrene shock absorbers in the heel provide maximum protection and stability over the most diverse terrain. The dual-density Boost cushioning on the medial side also provides energized stability while allowing for a smooth, responsive ride.
The measured drop on the Adidas Supernova Trail shoe is 10mm. This is especially helpful on rough and variable terrain.
• Synthetic leather & abrasion resistant mesh uppers make this a lightweight, durable and very breathable trail shoe
• AdiPrene shock absorbers in heels for maximum heel protection & stability
• AdiPrene under forefoot refocuses natural propulsive energy into toe off
• Torsion system at midfoot improves surface adaptability while allowing a natural foot rotation
• Traxion outsoles, Stretchweb flex and continental rubber give a superior traction and maximum flex while providing traction over versatile terrain
Adidas set out to make a premium trail shoe with maximum comfort and enabled traction on any trail. They did it. They used all of the technology at their disposal and even created some new products for use in the Supernova Trail shoe. It is the ultimate combination of strong and cushioned and will support even the softest foot through a great trail run.
