Upper
Upper

Upper

Just by glancing at the upper you can see how comfortable and breathable the sneakers are. The engineered monofilament upper is lighter and more breathable than the upper found on the previous model. This specialized upper wraps around the foot, providing support and comfort to the top while allowing the cool air to permeate and protect you from moisture and heat. The upper was created to stabilize the foot without the extra bulk and diminished breathability. The tongue is generously padded, keeping you safe from pinching laces and debris. The heel collar is padded as well, stabilizing the heels and ankles without irritating them. The traditional lacing system allows the wearer to adjust the fit to their needs without wasting too much time and effort. The rubber overlays represent the logo, while the heels have strengthened overlays to offer support and protection. The overlays also make the sneakers look fashionable and stylish, with different colors and textures that improve the design. A molded EVA sock liner is soft and breathable, contouring to the shape of the foot and offering a perfect fit. The padded foam footbed is breathable and cushy, creating one more layer of protection. Underneath the sock liner lays the Ortholite X-40 technology, delivering performance and extra padding.
Midsole
Midsole

Midsole

The Gel-Nimbus line is famous thanks to the Gel-technology midsoles. This model utilizes an even thicker and more resilient midsole than ever before! This legendary patented midsole design is created to minimize impact, to absorb shock, and offer unparalleled cushioning. The gel is silicone-based, injected into the midsole to improve responsiveness and shock absorption. The gel will respond to the motions of the feet, adjusting to their shape and supporting them throughout the run. The gel is not the only technology found in the midsoles though - The Flytefoam layer is thicker and bouncier than ever before! The foam is 2mm thicker, but it's also about 50% lighter, giving support and cushioning without the extra weight. The foam will return to its original shape after every step, and it will retain its shape for a very long time. There's one more lightweight component of the midsole that makes them so comfortable and responsive, and that's the Trusstic technology sitting underneath the arches. The thermoplastic component supports the arches, stabilizes the feet and prolongs the life of the midsoles.
Outsole
Outsole

Outsole

The outsoles are made out of the same materials as the previous models are, and that is AHAR. AHAR stands for Asics High Abrasion rubber, their proprietary blend that delivers protection and durability. The outsoles of the Gel-Nimbus 22 are a bit higher but more lightweight, protecting the heels from damage and prolonging the life of the outsoles. AHAR is placed strategically across the construction of the outsoles on areas that are prone to wear and tear damage, like the heels and toes. The thick rubber will keep the feet protected from rogue, sharp objects and rough terrain. The outsoles feature more tread patterns that run deeper in the construction, making them lighter and flexible. There are eight deep grooves on the outsoles, allowing the foot to move and flex naturally. The outsoles create an excellent platform for toe-offs and heel strikes, plus they are very grippy, so expect to remain safe and stable during wet and slippery conditions!
Size & Fit
Size & Fit

Size & Fit

The Gel-Nimbus 22 is a neutral running sneaker. They can help mild overpronators, but supinators might find the support and the fit lacking. The Gel-Nimbus 22 is made to be true to size. The updated upper and soft sock liner lock the foot down softly yet securely. The traditional lacing system allows the runner to adjust how loose they want the fit to be. The wide toe box is roomy enough for most runners, while the heel cup grasps the foot tightly and helps it stay in place.
Weight
Weight

Weight

When you shop for running sneakers, you're going to want to buy a lightweight sneaker that is supportive. When you are in the middle of a run, especially if speed and distance matter, the last thing you need is a set of weights around your feet to drag you down. The Gel-Nimbus 22 was designed to be lightweight, with some of the weight shaved down when compared to the previous model. The Gel-Nimbus 22 is not such a lightweight shoe, weighing in at about 10.9 ounces on average. This makes them a bit heavier than the competition, but it's that wight that gives them comfort and stability, and you won't even feel the extra weight around your feet!
Comfort
Comfort

Comfort

The Gel-Nimbus is an extremely comfortable sneaker. ASICS took all the right steps to create a luxurious shoe that creates all-around comfort. The engineered monofilament upper is very breathable and flexible, contouring to the shape of the foot to offer support. The Gel-Nimbus 22 runs true to its size, although it is a bit narrow, so you can expect to feel comfortable there as well. The incredible midsoles have plenty of padding and amazing features that support and stabilize the feet, helping mitigate pain and fatigue. And finally, the outsoles are thick and supportive, protecting you from the rough terrain so the feeling of walking on clouds remains!
Breathability
Breathability

Breathability

A good running sneaker has to have a breathable upper. If it doesn't, all of that warm air remains trapped in, making you sweat. Feet are one of the sweatiest areas on our body, and if all that sweat and heat remain trapped in your shoes, your socks will become wet, and bacteria will begin to thrive. This leaves you exposed to bad odors, fungus infections, and blisters! The Gel-Nimbus 22 is a very breathable sneaker. The engineered mesh upper is porous and free of any overlays, letting air escape freely. The sock liner is breathable too, helping sweat drain to the layers underneath, where it evaporates to leave you alone.
Style
Style

Style

The Gel-Nimbus 21 was already a very good looking sneaker, but the Gel-Nimbus 22 takes it up a notch. The upper doesn't look as busy and bulky as the previous model did, creating a streamlined design that contours to the shape of the foot. There are a lot of colors to choose from, with beautiful overlays on the heels that sharply contrast the color of the upper, making the sneakers pop. We don't often think about looking fashionable when we run, but with these sneakers, you will look good while performing even better!
Responsiveness
Responsiveness

Responsiveness

The Gel-Nimbus 22 is a very responsive shoe. Responsiveness matters any time you run, but it's essential if you're competing for time or distance. A responsive sneaker will conserve the energy you spend when making every step, helping you remain vigorous and fresh. The padding is supposed to let your feet sink into them, and then when you lift off, the cushions will rapidly bounce back to their original shape, propelling you forward. This way, you save up energy, which is why responsive footwear is a must when you run. The Gel-Nimbus has an amazing midsole that is sufficiently padded and very responsive. The outsoles are responsive as well, but they are on the thicker side to offer better protection. The FlyteFoam layer is solely responsible for the responsiveness, and the thicker layer conserves even more energy!
Support
Support

Support

The Gel-Nimbus 22 offers you support in many different ways. For starters, the engineered mesh upper may be flexible and breathable, but it does snuggly wrap around your foot, securing it in. The midsoles are supportive, thanks to the arch support insert that gently lifts them up, or fills up the hole that remains between high arches and the insoles. The traditional lacing system allows you to adjust the level of support you need from the Gel-Nimbus 22. The padded collar and tongue, along with the sturdy heel cup, lock the feet down comfortably and help the ankles and the top of your feet remain aligned naturally.
Terrain
Terrain

Terrain

The Gel-Nimbus 22 was designed for daily running, distance running, and marathons. The outsoles have deep grooves that allow the foot to flex, but they also create a good amount of suction that keeps you upright even when the ground is slippery. The high-abrasion rubber can survive all kinds of damage, but the upper may not hold off that well. Some users reported that rogue rocks and branches pierced the flexible upper, leaving holes on their brand new sneakers. This is why we recommend you avoid wearing these sneakers on trails and keep them focused on roads and pavements. Other users reported that they tried them out in the gym, even for Crossfit, and they performed very well!
Value
Value

Value

The Gel-Nimbus 22 is a very new model, released this month! This is why these sneakers are very pricey. You can expect to pay about 200 dollars for one pair, which is much more than what the previous model goes for, or any other competitor sneaker. But the Gel-Nimbus 22 has a lot to offer, and that is why we believe that it's well worth the price. The updated style and improved midsole are worth that much alone, but when you add everything else together, the price becomes nothing compared to their value!
The Final Word
The Final Word

The Final Word

ASICS has, once again, managed to create an exceptional sneaker. We thought that the Gel-Nimbus 21 cannot be beaten, but here we stand corrected. The midsoles are even thicker than before, but they are also lighter, delivering responsiveness and support without the extra bulk. The streamlined engineered mesh upper is very flexible and breathable, although it does sprout holes very fast. The fit is true to size, and the thick, durable AHAR outsoles can survive all kinds of wear and tear damage. We recommend the Gel-Nimbus 22 to every passionate runner that doesn't care about their price!
