Pros

Affordable

Incredibly lightweight

Cons

Bland color options

Thick, long laces

Outsole
Outsole

Outsole

The outsole of the Brooks Revel 3 is made from HPR Plus which is incredibly grippy and made for more than just sidewalks. Small cuts in the rubber are perfect for gripping slick surfaces such as wet sidewalks, and it has deeper cuts in the heel to grain traction for trail running as well.

The thick rubber outsole also provides users with a lot of energy feedback with each step. This means that it will absorb a lot of the impact when running on hard surfaces to give your knees and lower back a break.
Midsole
Midsole

Midsole

What we loved about the midsole of this design is that it is equipped with Brooks’ proprietary BioMoGo DNA material. This material is incredibly adaptive to all types of runners. Whether you are carrying a little extra weight, or love to gain speed as you rack up the miles, BioMoGo DNA adapts to your movements.

The material works by evenly distributing the impact throughout the midsole to prevent pain in problem areas of your gait. This provides an extra spring in your step so it feels as if you are running on a cloud rather than an unforgiving sidewalk.
Upper
Upper

Upper

We’re really excited to talk about the construction of the upper on the Brooks Revel 3. It is composed of heat-activated fibers for a great fit! These fibers conform to the shape of your foot as things start to heat up for great lockdown and comfort. It also means that won’t stretch out over time, because the upper regains its original shape once it cools.

The upper also boasts a seamless frame. This frame prevents spots where seams can dig into the top of your foot which causes chafing and blistering. It also means that it limits potential hot spots that can make you miserable on those long runs in the middle of summer.
Weight
Weight

Weight

One of the most notable differences between the Revel 3 and previous versions is that it is much lighter than most of the shoes in the Brooks line. This shoe weighs in at a mere 8.8 ounces. Most running shoes have an average weight of 9.5 ounces, so this shoe really shines!

While a difference of a few ounces may not seem like much at first, those ounces really start to matter as you put miles behind you! Plus, a lighter running shoe makes it easier to wear all day long, so you can transition from the gym to running errands without the need to change your shoes.
Breathability
Breathability

Breathability

Runners love that the construction of the upper is incredibly breathable. It is composed of a seamless design that prevents hot spots (even in the tongue!) to keep your feet cool and dry. Don’t let the term ‘heat-activated’ yarn lead you to believe that these shoes get hot!

It simply means that as your feet start to warm up, the fabric contours to the shape of your foot.

The downside to this breathable fabric is that it isn’t ideal for running in the rain. The thin and easy fabric doesn’t wick away water, so be prepared for soggy socks if you get caught in a rainstorm!
Comfort
Comfort

Comfort

With such an easy and simple design, the Brooks Revel 3 really shines in the comfort department. Brooks designed this shoe to transition easily from the gym to the office so you never need to bring a change of shoes. The heat-activated yarn in the upper means that this shoe gets more comfortable the longer that you wear it.

The inclusion of BioMoGo DNA also conforms to the shape of your foot as you wear it. It offers a light and springing feeling to take a lot of pressure off of your joints. Plus, it is incredibly lightweight which makes it perfect to wear all day long.
Durability
Durability

Durability

The sole is composed of HPR Plus, which is an incredibly durable rubber compound. This allows runners to really rack up the miles without losing traction. HPR Plus paired with BioMoGo DNA in the midsole means that this shoe is built to last.

The seamless construction of the upper not only keeps your foot comfortable, but it also removes the standard wear and tears on designs with seamed uppers. Many runners have found that this design is just as springing and responsive even after hundreds of miles of use.
Protection
Protection

Protection

It is important to note that the style of this design doesn’t offer users a lot of features when it comes to protection. The simple upper keeps your foot comfortable but doesn’t protect your foot from the elements.

It doesn’t repel water, so if you get caught in a freak rainstorm, your socks will get wet. However, a wider toe box and excellent lockdown prevent your toes from jamming at the end of your shoes.
Responsiveness
Responsiveness

Responsiveness

This neutral running shoe offers excellent energy feedback at each and every point in your gait. It has a thick sole that absorbs the impact as you land to take the pressure off of your knees and your joints. The BioMoGo DNA midsole feels light and springy even when running on hard surfaces.

Plus, the lightweight frame means that your gait never feels slow and labored. The lightweight materials used are effortless and allows you to run for miles without feeling bogged down with heavy and unnecessary materials.
Support
Support

Support

If you have high arches, this shoe offers excellent support. The construction of the inside of this shoe enhances lockdown, which means that your foot will not shift around as you run. Excellent lockdown means that you can do more than simple long-distance running on hard surfaces.

This is a great shoe if you are engaging in HIIT training or anything that requires quick movements and agility. The flexible materials are perfect for handling tight corners or picking up the pace.
Terrain
Terrain

Terrain

While it is classified as a shoe for hard surfaces such as sidewalks and treadmills, some runners found that it works outside of standard urban areas. The grooved texture of the outsole is great for gripping slightly uneven and gravely trail running.

If you love to run off of the beaten path, this shoe may not be ideal for rough and uneven surfaces. While it offers excellent support, the grooves in the outsole make it difficult to keep an even pace on difficult trails.
Traction
Traction

Traction

Small grooves in the sole of this shoe mean you will always keep your footing on all types of paved surfaces. If the sidewalks are a little slick after a rainstorm, the small grooves prevent yours from slipping. Runners found that this design is even great for running in slightly snowing conditions!

While the design of this shoe is not ideal for incredibly rocky and uneven surfaces, there are some runners that wear them on modest trails where the surface is slightly rocky and uneven.
Flexibility
Flexibility

Flexibility

One of the most notable features of the Revel 3 is that it is incredibly lightweight and flexible. If agility and support is your number one concern, pick this shoe. The sole of this shoe is composed of a simple rubber sole with Brook’s lightweight and flexible BioMoGo DNA midsole.

This is a great option for those that need a shoe that offers a lot of agility and movement. A seamless knit upper conforms to your foot as you wear it so it never feels stiff and rigid.
Stability
Stability

Stability

This shoe is meant to move, which means that stability is a little bit limited. The soft and easy upper feels like a second skin but does not offer much in terms of stability. However, interior construction provides a lot of support for high arches, and excellent lockdown prevents your feet from shifting around as you pick up speed.

We like that this design has a slightly wider tow box than most. This means that it is unlikely that your toes will smash up against the end of the shoe as you maneuver around tight corners at higher speeds.
Drop
Drop

Drop

One of the things that we liked most about this design is that it boasts an 8 mm drop. This is slightly lower than the Revel 1 and Revel 2, which allows for more movement and flexibility.

The lower drop means you have more control and contact with the road, and a lower drop also makes it lighter than most. If you need something that moves with you while still absorbing impact for heel striker, this is a great option.
Style
Style

Style

The styling of Brooks never sets out to make big waves in the style department, and the Brooks Revel 3 is no exception to that rule. While it doesn’t offer unique styling, it’s classic design is something that will never go out of style.

Design options include basic colors such as black, blue, gray, and marron. The side of the shoe boasts the Brooks logo on the side, and the upper has a low profile.

It may not catch any looks from fellow runners at the gym, it is something that is built to last and never goes out of style.
Price
Price

Price

What we loved most about this design is that it comes in at an incredibly reasonable price point! While it isn’t the most affordable running shoe out there on the market, it is one of the most affordable shoes in the Brooks line.

Brooks is a higher-end brand that users top of the line materials and innovative designs that often turn runners away due to high price tags. If you want to give Brooks a shot but don’t want to pay the high price point, the Revel 3 is a great place to start without breaking the bank!

Bottom Line
Bottom Line

Bottom Line

As the Revel moves through different iterations, it only gets better! Some of the most notable differences in version 3 are found in a lower drop, heat-activated knit, and lighter weight. If you need something versatile that moves with you during your workouts or simply running errands, this is a great option!

This is a shoe that is designed to be worn 24/7. The fit only gets better the longer that you wear it due to the heat-activated mesh knit upper. It has a lightweight frame that won’t wear you down as you rack up the miles and a flexible midsole designed for speed and agility. Whether you run long distances or need something for tight corners and speed, the Brooks Revel 3 is made to fit your specific needs.

Plus, it comes in at a low price point that makes it more approachable than other designs in the Brooks line. If you have always wanted to try out a Brooks design but just can’t seem to pull the trigger due to an intimidating price tag, this is an excellent place to start that won’t break the bank.
