Earn Charity Money While You Run
Make every step count while you run! The Charity Miles app allows you to earn real money that you can donate to charities simply by doing what you already do – run. Charity Miles founder Gene Gurkoff was originally a lawyer who loved running, participating in dozens of marathons around the country. After seeing an opportunity to monetize people’s fitness training into real money for charity, he developed the Charity Miles app. To date, the members of Charity Miles have earned over 2.5 million dollars for charities around the world!
In modern life, many of us are often working full-time jobs, taking care of families and pets, answering emails, watering the garden, meal prepping, fixing the car, trying to etch out some time for personal growth… etc etc. Finding a balance can be difficult, and finding the extra time or money to volunteer and donate to a meaningful charity or cause can seem impossible at times. The good news is that these days you can make regular donations to a charity without changing a single thing about your life. It’s this kind of innovative thinking that can work around a busy life – instead of trying to add to it – that is becoming a big game changer in the world of charities.
What is Charity Miles?
As stated on their website, Charity Miles is a “socially-driven, for-profit company connecting charities, individuals, and corporate sponsors to create social change.” By connecting individuals with corporate sponsors and charities, it provides the opportunity for a tri-win situation:
- Individuals are able to earn money for a charity with a simple app.
- Corporate sponsors are able to repurpose their advertising dollars for a good cause.
- Charities receive extra publicity and dollars directed at them.
“Our sponsors want to do good with their advertising budgets, but they need advertising results to be able to re-allocate those larger (non-charity) budgets. Therefore, we deliver premium advertising that’s a higher quality than ordinary banner ads. We enable them to measure a high-quality return on investment (ROI) from their investment and thereby reallocate larger portions of their advertising budgets for social good,” reads Charity Miles’ website.

The app works by using your phone’s GPS system and motion sensors in order to track your mileage every day. It’s not just for running, either – you can log in your miles by walking, running or even cycling. It detects your movements whether you are indoors, outdoors, on a trail or a treadmill. For every mile covered in your daily walk, run, or cycle, you are rewarded with “charity miles money” to donate to the charity you chose before your workout. When you finish your workout, the app will display an ad from one of their corporate sponsors along with a summary of your achievement – both in miles and in an approximation of the benefit to your chosen charity. For example, if you chose Feeding America, it might show that you “provided 20 children with lunch” today. And you’re not tied to one charity – you can choose a different charity before each workout!
The amount you earn per mile depends on your mode of transportation – if you’re walking or running, you earn 25 cents per mile. For cycling, you earn 10 cents per mile. You can only earn miles through dedicated workouts, though – not for every step you take every day. You have to log on to the app before each run and log out of the app at the end to track your miles.
Another great option on the Charity Miles app is the Teams feature. It’s an easy, fun way to get a group of friends and family motivated together towards a good cause, and immediately see your positive impact in the world!
Make your walks, runs, and cycles count with this innovative app.
