Outsole
Outsole

Outsole

One of the biggest changes made in the Arahi 3 over the Arahi 2 is found of the outsole. This design boasts a thicker and denser rubber sole to prolong the life of this shoe. It has raised rubber regions on the midfoot and on the heal that often wear down first.

The quality of dense rubber used as well as the fortified impact zones make for an incredibly durable sole that also provides excellent energy feedback for hundreds of miles of continued use.
Midsole
Midsole

Midsole

What makes the Hoka One One Arahi 3 unique is the inclusion of the J-Frame, which was introduced in 2017. If you stride hits the pavement with the force of Thor’s hammers, the super dense EVA foam J-Frame is designed to absorb much of the impact, as well as correct overpronation to protect your joints.

Hoka One One’s Meta-Rocker is another great feature found in the midsole. Whether you are a heel striker or your strike midfoot, this proprietary rocker guides your foot throughout your entire gait for a smoother transition and great shock absorption.
Upper
Upper

Upper

Stability shoes typically come with stiff and unforgiving uppers, but not with the Arahi 3! The Arahi 3 dropped many of the fabric overlays and thick materials found on the Arahi 2 and opted for a more simple and breathable fabric for the upper.

This seamless design reduces hot spots so your foot can really breathe. The use of lightweight and easy materials helps circulate air and prevent your foot from overheating.

One of the few user’s complaints of this design is that they felt that the heel was just a little on the stiff side, and it takes a while to fully break in the heel of this upper.
Weight
Weight

Weight

Simple changes made to this design of this shoe means that it is one of the lightest options on the Hoka One One line. In a world of heavy stability shoes, this option weighs in at just 9.6 ounces. The average running shoe weighs about 9.5 ounces, so this design is super lightweight!

The majority of the weight is found in the outsole and midsole. Dense rubber and layers of EVA foam in the midsole make up the majority of the weight. The upper is composed of a singular layer of mesh fabric which is lightweight and easy.
Breathability
Breathability

Breathability

Runners love the breathability of this shoe! A singular layer of mesh fabric helps promote air circulation to keep your foot cool and comfortable. It boasts a minimal tongue that won’t create hot zones on the top of your foot and a stiff yet thin heel which keeps the back of your foot cool as well.

Where the Hoka One One Arahi 3 breaks away from previous iterations are found in the singular layer of mesh material on the upper. Large mesh vents along the top of the toe box and along the side keep air circulating, even on those hot summer days.
Comfort
Comfort

Comfort

Arahi 3 pulls out all of the stops when it comes to comfort. A light and breathable upper keeps your foot cool and comfortable while eliminating troublesome hot spots on your foot. The midsole is also designed to guide your gait to take the pressure off knees and joints as well.

The most notable feature of this design is the dense rubber and EVA foam midsole. The blend of these materials on the sole makes you feel like you are running on a cloud. It naturally guides your gait for easy transitions, and it offers excellent energy feedback when running on hard and unforgiving surfaces.
Durability
Durability

Durability

Hoka One One shoes are built to last for hundreds of miles of continued use, and the Arahi 3 is no exception to the rule. In fact, key design features in the dense rubber sole lengthen the lifespan of this shoe.

The sole is reinforced with extra rubber panels on places that get more wear and tear, such as the heel and in the midfoot. The seamless mesh knit upper has limited points where the material can tear away from the sole, and it has a good deal of stretch to conform to your foot.
Protection
Protection

Protection

Heavy runners need a little bit more protection than most. What we loved about this design is that it is reinforced with key features that help protect your joints from heavy strides on hard surfaces.

The J-Frame design in the midsole keeps your gait even to reduce the risk of putting a lot of strain on your knees and joints. Plus, the super dense rubber sole absorbs the impact from hard surfaces so there is little strain on your knees, lower back, and joints.
Responsiveness
Responsiveness

Responsiveness

When compared to other stability shoes in the Hoka One One line, Arahi 3 is one of their most responsive shoes. The dense rubber sole combined with EVA foam in the midsole adds a lot of spring to your step.

This design doesn’t have the same soft springiness as other iterations, but the denser material works better at absorbing the impact of hard surfaces for heavy strikers. While it may not give you a lot of spring when standing still, it really shines when you add pressure when striking the pavement.
Support
Support

Support

This is an extremely supportive running shoe. Two key design features help keep your foot secure and supportive. The J-Frame found in the midsole cradles your foot to correct overpronation and it keeps every strike to the pavement even to prevent strain on knees and your lower back.

The Meta-Rocker also helps to guide your foot for effortless even strides. With the J-Frame and Meta-Rocker, your foot glides into a proper placement which takes the strain off of your joints.
Terrain
Terrain

Terrain

Arahi 3 is designed to be a great urban running shoe. It has features that are made to help support your foot when running on hard surfaces. Reinforced rubber in high wear areas not only extends its lifespan but also gives you more cushioning on unforgiving sidewalks.

While most runners take this shoe on a ride in urban areas, the tread on the sole can also be used on modest trails. We recommend sticks to even trails because the treads are not deep enough for rough and uneven trails.
Traction
Traction

Traction

The thick rubber sole with mild treads is perfect for gripping flat surfaces such as sidewalks and modest trailheads. If you are traveling on slick surfaces such as rain-soaked sidewalks, the tread on these shoes really excels to keep you from slipping.

While most users wear these shoes on paves surfaces, they work well on modest trails as well. Just be sure to stick to even surfaces because the treads aren’t deep enough to traverse rocky and uneven surfaces.
Flexibility
Flexibility

Flexibility

High stability shoes are often stiff and aren’t very flexible, but the Arahi 3 provides users with a good deal of movement. It has a thinner mesh upper that moves as your foot moves. This means that it is a perfect companion if you want to pick up the pace without being weighed down.

Some users report that the rubber sole of this design is just slightly stiffer than previous iterations, which is something important to keep in mind. While the heel on the upper is thin, some find it to be a little stiff. The good news is that the heel simply needs time to break in and soften up.
Stability
Stability

Stability

If you are looking for a high stability shoe, look no further. This design was made to accommodate heavy runners or heavy strikers without weighing you down with heavy materials on the upper.

The combination of the J-Frame and the Meta-Rocker cradle your foot in place and promotes lockdown so your foot doesn’t shift around inside of the shoe. Plus, the rubber sole is a bit denser than other Hoka One One designs, which helps to protect joints.

For heavy runners that don’t want to be bogged down with boxy and stiff shoes, this shoe provides just enough stability without slowing you down.
Drop
Drop

Drop

Stability running shoes often have a higher drop between 8-12 mm. However, this option boasts a drop of only 5 mm. So, what does this mean for your training sessions?

A lower drop offers more flexibility and movement so you can really pick up the speed. The design of the J-Frame in the midsole means that you get all of the benefits of a higher drop without the restricting and bulky frame.

A lower drop also means more flexibility. The sole is composed of dense rubber which isn’t incredibly thick and cumbersome, which means you get great stability with less distance between your heel and the sidewalk.
Style
Style

Style

One of the best features of this shoe is that it has more bright and colorful designs compared to other shoes in the Hoka One One line. It comes in a ton of unique and colorful design options that are sure to generate a few looks from fellow runners.

Bright color options include various shades of blue with electric yellow accents. It is also available in more neutral gray tones for those that don’t want something as flashy. Plus, the simple design means you will have no problem pairing these shoes with your running shorts or just a pair of jeans.
Price

Price

As with most Hoka One One shoes, this option packs a pretty steep price tag. While it’s not the most expensive running shoe to hit the shelves, it will make quite a dent in your bank account.

The good news here is that the heightened durability means that you get a lot of bang for your buck. The dense rubber sole with a reinforced padding in key striking zones means it will last for hundreds of miles without wearing down or losing shape.

Bottom Line

Bottom Line

Runners often have to make certain sacrifices when opting for a high stability shoe. Higher stability running shoes are often heavy and a little cumbersome, and slow you down quite a bit. The specific design features of the Hoka One One Arahi 3 means you still have flexibility and movement with this shoe, so you can pick up the pace without heavy materials holding you back.

The lightweight design of the mesh upper promotes air circulation without creating any hot spots on your foot, and limited seam lines reduce the risk of rubbing your feet raw.

The Arahi 3 is a blend of speed and support, which is something that you don’t often find in a high stability shoe. Whether you are a heavy runner or just a heavy striker, this is a great fit to keep your foot supported.

Sure, it packs a higher price tag, but you get a lot of bang for your buck. Additional padding in high impact zones not only keeps your foot supported, but it also extends the overall life of the shoe for hundreds of miles worth of travels.
