Misfit Flare

The Misfit Flare sleep and activity tracker is the most basic tracker in the Misfit line. It is aimed more towards those who are just starting out using trackers and just want to get the feel for them. The cheap price tag does not come without its downfalls, however, as it does not give you the bells and whistles you might be looking for. The Flare does not have a heart rate monitor and does not have a clock feature, nor does it give you any notifications. Many users appreciate the simplicity of it all but if you want something more advanced you may want to consider a different option. One of the biggest downfalls with this tracker, however, is that it has the tendency to suffer from some premature wear and tear so that is something that you may want to keep in mind if you are purchasing this product. If you do not mind a plain and simple device that will give you the basics such as steps taken, calories burned, and distance traveled as well as quality and quantity of sleep then the Misfit Flare is going to be the perfect tracker for you.

The Misfit Flare fitness and sleep tracker does what most similar trackers will do. You can track your steps, distance traveled, and calories burned automatically when wearing the fitness tracker, as well as your quality of sleep. This product, however, does not have a heart rate monitor so if you are looking for something that is going to track your heart rate then this may not be the correct tracker for you. This item is aimed more towards beginners as it is more of an entry-level tracker and is very basic. It is a great tracker for first timers as it does not cost a lot and still gives you the same great basic features that other trackers will give you. Whether you are simply walking or participating in yoga or some kind of sport, this product will keep track of all your activities.
      Basic Features
The Misfit Flare activity tracker is jam-packed full of basic features, as it is a basic tracker. You can get all the things that you would expect from this type of product, including tracking your steps taken, distance traveled, and your calories burned as well as your sleep quality and duration. You also have the ability to track different types of exercises such as running, walking, yoga, basketball, swimming, soccer, and a variety of other activities. One minor inconvenience about the activity tracking feature is that fact that it cannot automatically detect what activity you are participating in and you will use the Misfit app in order to start recording any exercise that is not simply walking.

The activity tracker is waterproof up to 50 meters so it is perfect for those who love to swim and is great so you do not have to remove the watch when you want to shower. If you are a swimmer and like to swim laps then you are in luck. The Misfit will allow you to track each lap you take while in the pool. The only downfall to this feature is that you will have to buy an in-app feature to allow you to do this, costing you an extra ten dollars. Many users who do a lot of swimming have paid this expense and they have taken advantage of this handy feature.
      Advanced Features
There are not too many advanced features when it comes to this product as the Misfit Flare fitness tracker is more of a basic, entry-level tracker. One of the more advanced features to this tracker is the fact that it has a smart button on it that you can connect through the Misfit Link app. The button will allow you to take a picture with your iPhone, control your smart devices in your house, control your music, and so much more. It is a great convenience for a lot of users.

Something that is kind of unique to this tracker, although common for Misfit trackers in general, is the fact that there is no watch face to this product. There is, however, a single LED light that will tell you how far or close you are to reaching your step goal for the day. It uses a series of flashing lights to let you know, flashing once for twenty-five percent, twice for fifty percent, and three times if you are at seventy-five percent. You will get a different light animation when and hit your goal for the day.
There is not a whole lot of information available as to how accurate the Misfit Flare is when it is tracking your movements. If it is anything like the other Misfit products that are on the market then we can assume that it is going to be fairly accurate for the most part, but again there is not really a lot of available information on the Flare specifically.
The Misfit Flare fitness trackers connect to your Android or Apple device through a Bluetooth connection and use the Misfit Track app that is available in both the Google Play Store or Apples App Store. Customers mentioned that it is fairly easy to get the device to connect and keeping it connected. That being said, once you get the initial connection to your device it is much easier to get it to connect again in the future. You do not have to have your phone handy and connected throughout the day, however, to use the tracker but you will have to link it with your device to see you step results or to use one of the other features available to you such as specific activity tracking.
The Misfit Flare activity tracker uses the Misfit Track app which is available to you on your Android or Apple device and can be found in the Play Store (on Android devices) or the App Store (on Apple devices). Most of your interactions with the tracker will be done through this app. If you want to see your exact progress, track specific exercise, or link your tracker to other smart devices in your house then you will need to do it through this companion app. You will also have the ability to link up to some third party apps such as MapMyFitness, Polar Beat, Withings, or UA Recorder. Some customers have reported, however, that the social aspect of the Misfit app is lacking and they would like to see the ability to have better social interactions through the app in the future.
The Misfit Flare tracker seems to have a decent amount of comfortability to it. The band fits great and it is super lightweight which is an added bonus. This is especially nice when you are sleeping with it on, as you barely notice that you are wearing it so it does not disrupt your sleep at all. The small size of the tracker is nice because it makes sure that it will not get in your way throughout the day as you are participating in your everyday activities.
The Misfit Flare activity and sleep tracker has a very basic design to it. It does not live up to its name when it comes to the look, as it does not offer the flare that you would expect from something with that name. That being said, customers seem to appreciate the simple and sleek design. The tracker is only available in black or rose-tone and some customers would like to have seen it with more color options but for the most part, customers seem to be content with one of the two available options. The tracker itself has a TPU plastic sports band with an aluminum casing for the face. The watch has a crystal face that has one white LED light in the middle of it. That is it, plain and simple.
Durability is important in anything that you purchase. You do not want to spend your money on something, including an activity tracker, and have to worry about it breaking too quickly and easily. That being said, many customers have reported that the Misfit Flare trackers do have the tendency to suffer from some premature wear and tear. Many said that even though the device says that it is waterproof they had problems with the functionality of the tracker after they had it in the pool. Many customers were unhappy with the relatively short lifespan of the Flare.
The face of the Misfit Flare tracker follows suit with all of the other Misfit trackers on the market, as it does not have what most people would consider an actual face. There is one single LED light on the crystal face and that is it. The entire face acts as a button that will let you control your smart devices if you have them connected through the Misfit app. The button also will show you a number of flashing lights using the LED to show you how close you are to your step goal for the day.
The Misfit Flare tracker has a band that is made out of TPU plastic. Since the tracker is waterproof, the band has to be as well, you do not want it to get ruined in the pool or the shower. One great feature, however, is that the band is interchangeable so you do have the ability to replace it if you need it.
      Sizes Available
There are no size options when it comes to the Misfit Flare activity tracker. The band, however, easily fits many different sized wrists to ensure that most people can wear the tracker comfortably on their wrists. The tracker itself measures in at 24 mm in diameter and 8 mm high and weighs in at only 8.5 grams and that is with the battery installed. The tracker is small and lightweight which is much appreciated by many customers.
      Ease of Use
The Misfit Flare activity tracker is easy to use, even for those to are self-proclaimed technologically impaired. You simply download and install the Misfit Link app onto your smartphone and connect to your tracker using a Bluetooth connection. Once you are connected everything is done through the app and it is pretty self-explanatory.
      Power Source
The Misfit Flare fitness tracker is powered by a replaceable CR1632 coin cell battery so there is no need to make sure that you keep it charged. The battery should last you right around four months before you will need to purchase a new one and replace it.
When it comes to purchasing anything, including a fitness tracker it is important to note that you are making an investment and as such you might have to pay a decent amount of money up front but as long as you make a good investment and purchase a good quality item then you will not have to worry about spending that hard-earned money again for quite some time. That being said, the Misfit Flare activity trackers seems to be a relatively mediocre investment as it can sometimes break fairly easily and need to be replaced. The sleep and activity tracker has an MSRP, manufacturer's suggested retail price, of only $60 which is on the low end for similar products. As with many things on the market nowadays, however, you can generally find this product online for a much cheaper price tag.
There are not very many accessories available for use with the Misfit Flare tracker. The only thing that can be used with this device is interchangeable bands. The tracker does not come with any additional accessories, however, when you purchase it, you get the tracker and the battery you need to work it.

      Bottom Line
Overall, the Misfit Flare fitness and sleep tracker is a good device if you are looking for an entry level tracker for a low price tag. The Misfit has a very simple and sleek look and an affordable price tag that customers love. Unfortunately, this device does seem to suffer from some premature wear and tear and can break fairly easily so this is something to be aware of when purchasing this activity tracker. If you just want something that will track the basics and do not want to spend a lot of money then the Misfit Flare tracker is the perfect option for you.
