It’s time to get out that red, white and blue gear in celebration of the Fourth of July. And for runners, this means their running gear and participating in the most patriotic races throughout the country.

Nothing says America more than joining our band of brothers and sisters and crossing that finishing line feeling all that glory.

Running a 5k or 10k on the Fourth of July has become one of the many traditions we do each year. It’s a great way to get into the festive spirit before going to that bbq and watching fireworks.

Of course, it’s even sweeter when runners do so to support a great cause like saluting the troops.

But what really are the most patriotic races to run? Check out these options to run in this year.

Firecracker 5k For The Troops

This race promises to help kick off the holiday “with a bang,” making it one of the most patriotic. That’s because it’s filled with a run including free photos, a short sleeve shirt, and medal.

Held in Reston, Virginia on the Fourth, this race also includes the popular “Battle of the Branches.” Participants are encouraged to indicate the branch of service they are in or that the family is affiliated with. The branch with the largest “army” gets bragging rights and a donation made in their honor.

The race also includes a free kids runners with medals awarded to all and post-race run with live music and refreshments.

NYCRuns Firecracker 5k and 10k

Held on Governors Island in NYC, this patriotic race is all about the great views and festive vibes.

Run the course with views of Lady Liberty while on the newly updated course and feel the patriotism.

Awards are given to the top finishers, and here is a post-race party to start the celebration. Stick around after to enjoy the island.

White House 10k Running Tour

Held on July 3, this is one of the best patriotic ways to celebrate the upcoming holiday.

Technically not a race, runners are led through a guided running tour. This includes seeing the White House, Library of Congress and the National Mall.

Along with sightseeing during this patriotic run, runners get to hear history and even stop for photos at the Washington Monument.

AJC Peachtree Road Race

This bucket list race is the largest 10k in the country. And this year the race is celebrating its 50th year. This race brings out professional runners like previous winner Stephanie Bruce, along with International competitors.

But this is an all-American race held in Atlanta, Georgia that brings out more than 60,000 participants.

It serves as a great 10k for all levels of runners, with various start waves to help with the traffic.

Red, White & Boom

Talk about a patriotic race. Held on Independence Day in Minneapolis, Minnesota, this race is all about the red, white and blue.

Runners get a patriotic medal upon finishing this race that includes looped courses around the Mississippi River with a finish crossing the Stone Arch Bridge led with American flags.

The post-race party includes a picnic and celebration hosted by the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board. His includes family fun, local vendors, music, food, and fireworks.

There is a 5k, half marathon, and relay option.

Breckenridge Independence Day 10k Trail Run

Held on the July in Breckenridge, Colorado this patriotic race is an annual tradition among trail runners in the area.

That’s because it features jaw-dropping views of the Rocky Mountains that makes runners feel proud to be an American who lives in God’s country.

The trail run finishes in time to watch the Main Street parade.

Hilton Head Island Firecracker 5k

Held at Jarvis Creek Park on the Fourth of July, this race is one of the top ten races in South Carolina.

Make this a family tradition since it includes a 5k, 5k option for kids 12 and under and various distance kids races. Just keep in mind no strollers are permitted.

The largest and oldest race in Beaufort County sees more than 1700 runners and walkers participate from all over the country.

Clearwater 4th of July Apple Pie Run

Nothing is more American than apple pie on the Fourth of July. So why not get into the spirit at this fun run in Clearwater, Florida?

All finishes are awarded an apple pie medal, and there are free food and beer for those of age. There are also fun awards for the top 10 males and female finishers.

Set on the Ream Wilson Trail, this event includes a great setting and includes a flat course that is stroller-friendly. Stick around for fireworks later in the day.

Firecracker Mike

This Fourth of July race is one of the best and most patriotic races in the Midwest. It’s a popular race, run by both Olympians and everyday runners.

It is only a mile event, but those who break a 4-minute mile get a $1000 bonus prize. There are cash prizes for other top finishers.

Located at 14 Mile Road, the course is flat and fast. There are lots of spectators and medals for the top 50 male and female finishers.

After the race, stick around for the Fourth of July celebration with a parade.

L.L. Bean 4th of July 10k

This is one exciting race because the first 400 registrants get New Balance running shoes. Top finishers also get L.L. Bean gift cards for an extra incentive.

This is a hilly course but filled with flag-lined houses in Freeport, Maine. Expect to see many runners in their stars and stripes.

Firecracker 4 Road Race

This is arguably among the most patriotic races in the country. It is a Joint Service Formation Run for military veterans, active, retired and reserve servicemen and women, along with family and friends.

There is also a Firecracker Sparkler Kids Fun Run for the little ones.

Filled with lots of spirit, there are over 3,000 participants competing for that winning cash prize.

Most people run in costume for this one, and it is fun for the whole family with a parade and fireworks post-race.
