Ultimate Direction Fastpack 15 Reviewed & Tested
Backpacks are a man’s best friend at times. They can save us from starvation in the wilderness or allow us to store cooking stoves or pans when there are no options on a hike. They even allow us to store light sleeping bags or covers to survive harsh nights in the middle of an ice storm or a mountain range. Also, backpacks allow runners and skiers the ability to take long-distance trips in even far away places around the world to continue their passions (running or skiing) while not bogged down by the items they carry.
Ultimate Direction Fastpack 15 is a backpack designed for many uses and for various types of wearers. It is designed for skiers, runners, hikers, and other users to be able to take advantage of it; and for them to keep moving forward and doing what they love without having to forego items they need. Just to get an idea of how far this backpack will take your travel needs or athletic maneuvering in remote places, it offers up to 21L (1281cu in) of volume. Now, this is no slouch, although when compared to Ultimate Direction Fastpack 25-45 offerings in the same lineup of backpacks, it is smaller and more meant for shorter trips than its other siblings.
Whether this is your backpack of choice will depend on what your needs are and how much volume you need for the items you will be carrying on you. The really nice addition to this pack for those using it for more regular city commutes is it has a designated no-bounce laptop sleeve so you can carry your computing needs secured inside it. This is really a perfect backpack for those who do not need to have everything on them all the time, want a little bit of a less pricey option, yet an option that is robust enough for most needs.
- Ultra lightweight
- Zippered front compartment
- Great storage space on shoulder straps
- Can offer 21L of volume when unrolled
- Designated laptop sleeve
- Some female users complained it is too big even at the small size for their frame
The Ultimate Direction Fastpack 15 is such a backpack. The backpack offers dual external mesh pockets for stashing anything up to the size of a pair of shoes on top of its larger main compartment, which will offer plenty of space for clothing and hiking gear. There is even a sturdy laptop sleeve hidden inside as well. By utilizing the roll compartment, you will be able to extend the capacity of the backpack by 5 liters -- from 15 to 21 liters once unrolled.
Although the three larger packs share almost the same features, this one is a bit of an oddball. Some of the larger packs do not hold a hip belt, just like this one, and none feature a frame or padding, so for their purposes, they may be limited. However, this pack makes much more sense when you are looking for a small, lightweight, durable and breathable backpack for all-purpose use rather than what the larger and higher model ones are sold as (long journeys or hikes).
- 100D Robic Triple-Ripstop: High-tenacity nylon for strength and durability
- It holds a combined potential of 21L of volume (15L secured and 6L unsecured)
- Very breathable material in MonoRip Mesh
- Only 1.14 pounds for smaller version
- Unisex design
