We are constantly inundated and overwhelmed by the sheer amount of new diets, workouts, and allegedly groundbreaking programs that are going to be the magic bullet to help us lose weight.  With so many options available for us to choose from online and in stores it can be a challenge to decide which one or which ones to give a try.

Dieting is a huge industry in the United Stats with an estimated 100 million people who say they have dieted a whopping four or five times a year!  The problem is with so many choices we often jump into various programs without knowing a lot about them and how they relate to our personal goals and physiology.  If we don’t know what we need, it is hard to pick a program that can work to accommodate our needs!

There are many reasons we look qualified and professional resources to manage our nutrition needs.  The amount of literature out there is so great though, that you could easily discouraged quickly especially if you do not have a hard end goal in mind.

What you want to do, is first decide exactly what you are looking to achieve, then decide on a length of time you are willing to put into achieving that goal. If you don’t set the groundwork, you will inevitably find yourself looking through new release lists online and in the newspaper, or your favorite publication and end up putting a lot of your time and effort into figuring out what is going to work for you.  Then you end up with the new fad diet and undoubtedly, you will jump from one yo-yo diet to another, gaining and losing weight in the process. That is super unhealthy to be in constant fluctuation with your weight. It puts way too much pressure and stress on your body, mostly your heart. Get serious about what you want, and get mentally prepared and excited to succeed then find the right plan to help you do just that.  Don’t get discouraged along the way if you have to try a few before you find the right one for you.

Did you ever watch a sports game and not know the rules?  Why were the players doing what they were doing on the court/field/etc.?  If so, then you know it is pretty hard to get into and interested in watching that sport when you understand nothing about it.  Well the same goes here with education. We wanted to make sure the books we reviewed not only had strong, effective plans, but that they supplemented the science behind why they work and how they work.  So every time you use their menu, or understand why you are doing it. Q:  How much weight is healthy to lose in a month?

It is enticing to think about losing a ton of weight in a month or even a week, but health wise this is not only unhealthy, but unsustainable.  Evidence shows that people who lose weight gradually and steadily are far more successful at maintaining their weight loss. That would look like about 1-2 lbs. per week, or at most 8 lbs. per month.
