An in depth review of the Under Armour Rival Sunglasses A Review of the Under Armour Rival Sunglasses www.runnerclick.com

The Under Armour Rival sunglasses are top-of-the-line lenses meant to take on a variety of athletic activities.  They are most recognized on professional athletes in baseball and golf but are suitable for runners as well.  From the second you put on the glasses, you will notice a very comfortable and stable fit.  After using the UA Rival sunglasses on several different types of runs, I felt the same supportive feel.  All-in-all, these shades are very stylish with plenty of color options and provide superior vision to shade your eyes from the sun.

Style

The design of the UA Rival glasses are extremely stylish. The striped two-toned coloring on the temples create a visually appeasing and athletic look while the lenses bring a flashy style to the table. Depending on the color choice, the glasses will feature either a black or white color base with a secondary color of grey, black or red. They have a nice rounded symmetrical construction which can fit plenty of different head shapes. The Under Armour logo located just outside the lenses are the perfect size and do not impede your peripheral vision. These are some of the most stylish athletic sunglasses on the market.

Fit/Size

You can just feel the sturdiness of the glasses just by folding or opening the temples. Once applied to your face, the glasses are really locked in. That’s easy to say for most shades until you start doing some sort of activity. Nevertheless, once I began taking a warm-up jog for my workout, the glasses fit snugly on the bridge of my nose and top of my ears. Even when I began to pick up speed for short burst sprints, the glasses stayed put which was very impressive. Another great thing about these glasses is that they have a good amount of flexibility to adjust to the head shape of every user. The tips of the temple slightly flex but still maintain their stable nature so that they do not feel too tight or too loose on your face. They also fit nicely on your forehead if you happen to go inside during your workout or need to take the glasses off.

Coverage

The lenses of the UA Rival are fairly large compared to other glasses on the market. That being said, it works in your favor to protect your eyes with maximum coverage. Put it this way, the lenses cover enough space so that you won’t be able to touch the corner of your eye without moving the glasses out of the way. This helps with protecting against wind and debris while running. With the glasses fully mounted you can hardly see the frame itself. Under Armour has patented these shades with ArmourSight technology which delivers up to 20% more undistorted peripheral vision.

Durability

The glasses seem to be made out of very durable materials. The amount of flexibility and sturdiness when wearing them made me feel confident that they are going to last a long time. After opening them up and feeling them out it seemed to me that they had slight signs of shock resistant characteristics. The ultra-light ArmourFusion frames are made of titanium and Grilamid for extended strength and flexibility. I felt that if I had accidentally happened to drop them, they would be able to take the fall very well and wouldn’t show any signs of damage.

Weight

The weight of the UA Rivals is very light which is ideal for athletes, especially runners. They feel very well distributed from the nosepiece to the temples and don’t budge once they are on your face. After a few minutes, you start to forget that they are even there which is a great characteristic to have in your running sunglasses. Also, unlike many other shades, if you were to wear them for an extended period of time, your ears and nose won’t get that sore feeling of supporting the weight of the glasses. The lightweight design is perfect for just about any outdoor workout.

Polarization/Glare Protection

Glare wasn’t an issue throughout my running exercises. The glasses repelled the sunrays very well and I never felt the need to squint even when looking in the general direction of the sun. Many glasses that have a bright colored lens may make everything look like that same color. Under Armour did a great job making sure that everything didn’t have a blue tint to it when wearing these shades. Instead, it dims bright lights into an orange shade that makes it much easier to see.

UV Protection

Under Armour pledges that all their eyewear blocks 100% UVA, UVB and UVC rays. I had no reason to believe they don’t especially after using them on a run during a sunny day. Users can trust that their eyes and surrounding skin areas on their face will be fully protected from ultraviolet rays coming from the sun. The coverage of the glasses will protect a large part of your face from sunburn as well.

Cost/Value

The cost of UA Rival sunglasses sits around $100. For their price, the value of this eyewear product is truly unmatched. They really provide everything you need as a runner or an athlete in general. The two biggest things I looked at was comfortability and performance. For me, these glasses did just that and I felt confident knowing that the lenses themselves protected me against harmful UV rays during the workout. To add to the list, the style is phenomenal and can be worn with just about any type of clothing.

Bottom Line

A solid pair of athletic sunglasses are hard to find because they are put to many different tests compared to casual shades. The UA Rival is a quality eyewear product that truly does its job. As an ex-baseball player, I definitely appreciated the style and the performance of these shades. They sat comfortably on my face and had a good amount of flexibility to adjust to my hair length and head shape. For the price, it will be very hard to find a better pair of glasses that can provide quality and style in one package.
