They are designed to be stylish, durable and efficient, something that most other running trail shoes can’t hold a torch to. The Salomon S-Lab Wings maybe one of Salomon’s best shoes yet.
S-Lab Wings outsole is made up of ContraGrip technology, something that Salomon has been notably known for using. It provides great traction on most surfaces. Plus, it’s so durable. The ContraGrip is basically made of a variation of densities in the sole. This means that Salomon S-Lab Wings are fantastic on soft trail, most roads and hard trails
. However, some runners have said that these shoes are not the greatest on muddy surfaces, but there can be many reasons behind that.
The best thing about the S-Lab Wings is the midsole. It’s created with full-length molded EVA, making the midsole very comfortable because the cushioning is just the right amount for running on the trail. Not to mention the cushioning adds stability when running on a variation of trails

The upper is so breathable with its 3D stretch mesh that provides added support and adaptive fit as you run. Salomon S-Lab Wings very soft in touch. You can’t really go wrong with the laces on this particular running shoe, because Salomon S-Lab Wings uses a quicklace system that has a lace pocket. This system is great because while you’re running the laces are completely out of the way.
No more running and possibly tripping. The quicklace system ensures that the laces do not affect your trail. The brand also uses a combination of SensiFit and EndoFit technologies. The EndoFit actually improves foot wrapping and helps with feedback, while the SensiFit system secures the foot in place by hugging it comfortably with precise fit.
Talk about a lightweight shoe. Salomon S-Lab Wings weigh in at 10.2 ounces for a size 10 shoe and 11.8 oz (335g) for a size 12.5. S-Labs are a very nice weight and are perfect for trail running. The shoe looks very bulky, but are surprisingly lightweight.
Many runners have said that the S-Lab Wings are a more tricked out version to Salomon’s X-Series. What makes this running shoe so great is the 3D stretch mesh that make it easy to keep your foot dry and cool at all times. No more hot sweaty feet while running. Who could blame them? Yes, the Salomon S-Lab Wings are all about making you feel right as you progress in each sport.
Comfort is definitely not a problem when it comes to Salomon S-Lab Wings. They generally are true to size, so the fit is normal, but there is a lot more room in the toe box which makes the overall shoe comfortable. The shoe is not snug at all. There is no need to go up or down in size as the Salomon S-Lab Wings are dead on when it comes to fit. The back of the shoe has an excellent heel cup with a heel counter that is just perfect in size. Also, the stretch mesh actually gives a little so the S-Lab wings have a bit more room. It also helps that the toe box has a good shape. With the help of the SensiFit and EndoFit, the midfoot ultimately has a good fit, making this trail trainer an even more comfy shoe.
At first glance, Salomon S-Lab Wings are basic trail shoes, but when you look closer at the added features like the 3D mesh upper and the quick lace system, they are really stylish. The S-Lab Wings only come in a few Racing Red/Black/White or Black/Racing Red/White. This trail trainer is really bright in color and not easy interchangeable with outfits, but if you’re looking for a good trail shoe then the S-Lab Wings are perfect.
As for durability, the S-Labs Wings can be very surprising as they only so little to no wear and tear even after 50 miles of running. They actually hold up pretty well after a long distance run. A lot of it has to do with the way the S-Labs were developed, especially with the Premium Wet Traction Contragrip.
Salomon S-Labs protect your foot very well. There is a snug heel that does not feel tight. The internal sleeve has a sock-like fit that covers the entire foot.
On a scale from 0-5, Salomon S-Lab Wings get around a 4 for responsiveness. The are great. Most runners mention that the S-Lab Wings are especially good on moderately steep trails, with just the right amount of speed. The shoe was used on both road and light trails, and the responsiveness was solid.
The lugs on the outsole make the added support a priority. The S-Lab Wings weight only 10 oz. so support is so very important. Even though it is a lightweight shoe, the quicklace system helps to keep these shoes snug with every wear. The internal sleeve system supports the entire foot and does a phenomenal job at securing the foot, making the support of the S-Lab Wings awesome.
Most runners have said that when they run on a smoother surface they feel as though they are wearing less of a trail racer but more of a speed running shoe. The Salomon S-Lab Wings is great at picking up speed
with a springy feeling to it as you run faster. The shoe looks a bit bulky but it does not affect or get in the way of any runner. The S-Lab Wings are still considered a great performance trail shoe.
The S-Lab Wings is not a cheap shoe. It starts at $180. Even for a high quality shoe, that price may dissuade some runners from even trying on the shoe. But Salomon fans would agree - the cost is worth the quality.
With S-Lab Wings provides excellent traction on smooth surfaces, but tend to not work as well on muddy surfaces or more loose surfaces underfoot. Yes, the shoe is a bit grippy in most cases, but somehow in muddy conditions they do not perform as well. The new Contragrip, does help tremendously with how the Salomon S-Lab Wings performs on most other surfaces.
Salomon S-Lab Wings are very lightweight. However, they are not as flexible as expected. They are actually a bit on the firmer side. The strange part about the fact that the Salomon S-Lab Wings are not as flexible is that runners can still run pretty quick. You would think that because they aren’t as flexible, it would affect the way runners perform, but not at all. They still are an all-around great running shoe.
Stability has never been a problem for Salomon’s line of shoes. The arch support alone is unbeatable. Stability in trail shoes are so very important. If stability is lacking than your ultimate performance will also lack. Thankfully, Salomon S-Lab Wings has no problem with stability. These are stable shoes, and as noted in other reviews, they are built to perform under all conditions and on most surfaces. Salomon S-Lab Wings has natural stability, which provides the runner with confidence and ultimately helps to keep the foot in place while running.
Salomon S-Lab Wings have a 9mm drop. The heel is 28mm with a forefoot of approximately 19 mm. This ideally a perfect drop that’s why for most runners feel that this running shoe can do well with distance.

Salomon S-Lab Wings are very comfortable and durable for trail shoes. The only downside to the S-Lab Wings is the price. At $180 many runners aren’t as eager to splurge on running shoes. They rather keep the wallet fatter than thinning it out by buying up a nice pair of S-Lab Wings. But if you really do your research, you’d see that these running shoes are every bit worth the money.
So if you have the money and don’t mind spending then S-Lab Wings are a good purchase. However, if you are on a tight budget you might want to look elsewhere or try finding them on sale. It’s not completely impossible, especially when new models come out, Salomon has been known to drop their prices. Yes, the price is on the high-priced side, but if you’re looking for a trail shoe that can handle pretty much any surface, has a firm ride and are excellent in handling miles, then Salomon S-Lab Wings are what you’re looking for.
