Reebok All Terrain Sprint Review Facts
The Reebok All Terrain Sprint is a neutral, trail running shoe that is primarily used for competition. This minimalist running shoe was released in March of 2014, along with the Reebok All Terrain Super. The release of the Reebok All Terrain Sprint and the Reebok All Terrain Super was huge for obstacle course racers and mud runners alike.
Prior to this release, obstacle course racers were limited to standard trail running shoes. Reebok partnered with Spartan Race in 2013, just before releasing their first obstacle course racing shoes. A Spartan race, for those who are unfamiliar, is a sporting event that offers runners a series of at least 20 obstacles across distances ranging from 3 miles, the Spartan Sprint, to 26.2 miles.
The Reebok All Terrain Sprint offers obstacle course enthusiasts superb traction with well-designed lugs on the outsole, midsole drainage holes to keep feet dry and free of mud, and a seamless upper that hugs the foot. These shoes are built to perform at your next Spartan Race.
Outsole
The square lugs featured on the outsole of the
Reebok All Terrain Sprint are aggressive as runners make their way through the softer, more varied terrain experienced in off-road conditions. The outsole is made with a Sticky Rubber material that protects this unit from wear and tear. This Sticky Rubber keeps debris away from the sole of the shoe. The Reebok All Terrain Sprint features a firm section of rubber under the arch of the foot. This section of rubber, known as the Obstacle Grip, is designed to provide good grip during climbs. The Toe Pick enhances runner's leverage when climbing or traveling upwards. Many of the obstacles in a Spartan Race or Tough Mudder involve climbing a rope or a wall so this added feature helps runners move through these obstacles faster and more efficiently. The Reebok All Terrain Sprint also features a protective Rock Guard under the middle of the shoe.
Midsole
The Reebok All Terrain Sprint uses a low profile, high quality foam in the midsole. This foam material gives the runner the responsiveness, comfort, and support he/she needs when tackling the trails. The runner experiences cushioning throughout the stride. The midsole unit is low to the ground, which encourages natural movement throughout the gait cycle. The Reebok All Terrain Sprint features midsole drainage ports. These drainage ports are strategically placed on the shoe to quickly and easily drain water and mud from the shoe. Some runners did say that sand and mud would get stuck towards the front of the shoe, but most runners didn’t even notice their feet being wet.
Upper
The Reebok All Terrain Sprint features a seamless upper with standard laces. A few reviewers replaced the standard laces with elastic laces because the standard laces did not stay tied during their runs. This shoe also includes a seamless DuraGrip toe box. The tongue is thin, which is ideal for wet conditions. Since this shoe is designed for Spartan Races, there are drainage holes for water and mud. Reviewers liked how effective these holes were for keeping their feet dry whether they were running through a puddle or along a creek bed. The upper features an Ion Mask, which prevents mud and water from building up on the outside of the shoe. The mud just washes right off the shoe. Some reviewers did find that sand and small pebbles/rocks would get in the shoe when running through water and creek areas. The breathability of the upper keeps the runner's foot cool and dry. The back of the shoe sits higher and is stiff. Some reviewers found this to cause irritation and blisters, but this was fixed with anti-friction socks or wearing socks that came up higher. The Reebok All Terrain Sprint features a smooth inner sleeve. This feature allows the shoe to be worn sockless, but several reviewers wore waterproof socks with this shoe. The seamless construction of the upper was created to give the runner coverage that moves with the foot. This is important as the runner's foot is constantly changing direction as it makes it through obstacles. An internal midfoot support keeps the foot more stable and balanced when performing.
Weight
The Reebok All Terrain Sprint is a lightweight
trail running shoe. The men’s version weighs 7.2 oz and the women’s version weighs 5.6 oz. The low weight of these shoes makes them ideal for tackling the variety of terrain experienced by trail runners. The Reebok All Terrain Sprint doesn’t weigh down your feet when climbing walls or moving through obstacles.
Breathability
The drainage ports on the Reebok
All Terrain Sprint keep the runner’s feet cool and ventilated. The tongue of the shoe is thin and features small holes for ventilation. The upper features mesh on the sides of the shoe and offers the runner a good amount of breathability. This keeps the air flowing through the shoe, maintaining a comfortable foot temperature.
Comfort
Since the Reebok All Terrain Sprint is a minimalist running shoe, there is limited cushioning and padding throughout. Reviewers found the
cushioning in the heel on the Reebok All Terrain Sprint to be very firm and the cushioning in the forefoot to be firm. The foam material used in the midsole unit does provide the runner with cushioning from the beginning to the end of the stride. Runners preferred this shoe for no longer than 5-mile race distances. There is not enough cushion for longer distances and daily running, especially on the paved road. The midsole drainage ports help keep the runner’s foot drier and more comfortable throughout a run. Reviewers liked how quickly the Reebok All Terrain Sprint dried. After going through water and mud pits, reviewers were able to start running immediately without their feet feeling watered down. The shoe is built well enough that some reviewers didn’t even know their feet were wet!
Style
The Reebok All Terrain Sprint is available in normal width. The men’s version of this running shoe comes in 4 different vibrant color patterns. It comes in neon yellow/vital blue/black/white, neon yellow/China red/black/white, black/neon yellow/white, and solar yellow/solar orange. The women’s version comes in two color patterns. One is the solar yellow/solar orange and the other is yellow/orange/purple. 65% of Amazon customers who purchased the women’s All Terrain Sprint said it fit as expected. 67% of Amazon customers who purchased the men’s All Terrain Sprint said it fit as expected. Reviewers found this running shoe to run small and fit narrow. However, some wearers noticed the shoe stretches out a bit as it gets worn and that helped with the fit of the shoe. The Reebok All Terrain Sprint required very little break in time, some reviewers said. The Reebok All Terrain Sprint offers runners a low-profile design, giving runners a minimalist style of running.
Durability
The Reebok All Terrain Sprint holds up well to the wild terrain of Spartan and Tough Mudder races. Most runners were able to wear these shoes through more than one race without any problems. They sprayed them down with a hose after a race and they looked as good as new. The Ion Mask featured in the upper repels the mud and water so it washes off easily. The DuraGrip upper prevents rocks, sticks and other sharp objects encountered along the trail from putting holes in the fabrics of the shoe. The outsole offers great durability as it gets minimal use on the paved road. The lugs do not get worn as quickly since this shoe is used mostly on the trails.
Protection
The underfoot rock guard featured on the Reebok All Terrain Sprint protects the runners’ feet from rocks, barbed wire and other sharp or hard objects that may be encountered during an obstacle race or trail run. The DuraGrip upper protects the toe box area of the Reebok All Terrain Sprint. The Obstacle Grip helps runners move through climbing obstacles with minimal slipping.
Responsiveness
The Reebok All Terrain Sprint provides runners with a moderate amount of energy return. The foam material used in the midsole provides runners with responsive cushioning. According to data from the Runner’s World Shoe Lab, 52% of running shoes offer less energy return than the Reebok All Terrain Sprint.
Support
The Reebok All Terrain Sprint is a neutral running shoe, making the support ideal for those who don’t need a lot of arch support. Runners liked the minimalist feel of this shoe as they were able to feel the ground during a race. The high-quality foam material used in the midsole gives runners underfoot support. The seamless upper gives runners a tighter fit, preventing the foot from slipping out during an obstacle race.
Terrain
The Reebok All Terrain Sprint is the ideal
trail shoe. This running shoe is great on softer terrain like mud and stands up well in wet conditions. Thanks to the H2O Drainage Ports, runners do not feel weighted down with wet feet. Reviewers liked how well their footing was on gravel, sand, and dirt.
Price
The Reebok All Terrain Sprint is an expensive trail running shoe. The men’s version ranges in price from $109.99 to $139.99. The women’s version ranges in price from $119.99 to $129.99.
Traction
The Reebok All Terrain Sprint provides a lot of traction on practically every surface. Most reviewers commented positively on the traction and grip of this running shoe and experienced almost zero slippage during downhill mud runs. The excellent grip helped runners feel confident while wearing the Reebok All Terrain Sprint. The square lugs on the outsole of the shoe did a great job shedding mud, which prevented the shoe from feeling heavy. The Obstacle Grip helps runners glide through wall and rope climbs with very little slippage and at a quick pace.
Flexibility
The Reebok All Terrain Sprint is a flexible running shoe. The sole flexes with your foot as you take steps through varied terrain, bending to conform to the shape of the rocks you encounter. This is an important feature when encountering the constantly changing terrain of a Spartan Race. The one-piece seamless upper is flexible and conforms to the shape of the runner's foot.
Stability
The seamless upper of the Reebok All Terrain Sprint hugs the runner’s foot and keeps it secure while tackling the trails. The midsole is very firm and there is limited arch support. The internal midfoot support featured in the Reebok All Terrain Sprint gives runners a stable footing. The design of the lugs on the outsole keeps runners balanced and feeling confident with each step.
Drop
The Reebok All Terrain Sprint features a very low heel-to-toe drop of 3-mm and the profile of a racing flat. The heel height on both the men’s and women’s version of this trail running shoe is 23-mm and the forefoot height is 20-mm. The low profile of the Reebok All Terrain Sprint helps with ankle stability on rougher terrain.
