Key Features

Key Features

MIDSOLE

Sometimes, a simple yet effective midsole is all you need. The midsole in the Reebok Floatride Energy 3 is composed of Reebok’s Floatride Energy Foam that feels nice and bouncy underfoot. When you slip your foot inside of this shoe, it offers a nice squishy feel that begs you to hit the road.

With a 29 mm stack height and 9 mm drop, it provides more than enough energy-packed cushioning to help you conquer more miles and a zippy pace.

The Floatride Energy Foam feels soft at first but firms up as you pick up your stride. Runners found that this midsole material helps to protect their knees and joints when running on hard surfaces while adding an extra spring to their step. It may be on the simple side but really shines out there on the road.

What runners also love about the performance of the midsole is that it is designed to adapt to your natural gait cycle.

With a firm feel underfoot and plenty of cushioning to absorb the impact on hard surfaces, it provides seamless toe-offs that are great for speed as well as distance.

OUTSOLE

Reebok really nailed the construction of this outsole. It is composed of two different rubber compounds that boost traction while adding a little bit of extra bounce to your stride.

The heavy-duty rubber is found on the medial and lateral sides of your feelings, and it is designed to grip almost any type of terrain.

The outside section of this outsole is the real workhorse of the shoe. It is built tough to conquer hundreds of miles without showing many signs of overall wear and tear.

On the inside of the foot is a strip of a very soft and flexible rubber compound that boosts agility and movement while also adding an extra spring to your step. It hosts a slightly tacky finish that really grips slick sidewalks and it even works well in slippery grass.

No matter where you want to run, this shoe really delivers. The modest lugs are also built for easy trailheads to help you maintain your footing on uneven surfaces.

When running out on the sidewalks or trails, the outsole of this shoe proves that it is up to any task, whether you want to take it nice and easy on the sidewalks or engage in some HIIT on a grassy field.

UPPER

Reebok completely redesigned the upper of the Floatride Energy series to provide a more stable and breathable fit. The square knit construction of this upper boosts your overall lockdown and fit.

This breathable mesh helps to keep your feet cool and dry as you run, and it also helps to boost your overall lockdown for a fantastic fit. Plus, the new upper looks more modern and less clunky when compared to previous versions of this shoe.

I also love that the heel counter provides a flared heel collar to help protect your Achilles tendon as well as eliminate rubbing and chafing against your ankles for a great fit right out of the box.

It also boasts a more complex lacing system with ample laces that allow you to easily customize your fit. Overall, this upper is insanely breathable, lightweight, and comfortable. It’s everything a runner wants in a shoe.

PERFORMANCE

So, who is the Reebok Floatride Energy 3 made for? I would recommend this running shoe for anyone that needs a good daily workhorse that isn’t bogged down in a lot of heavy and unnecessary features. It’s a great shoe to wear on nice and easy tempo runs where simply getting out on the road is considered to be a big win.

The durable outsole is perfect for running long distances and provides just enough energy return and flexibility for quicker training days.

With so many different styles and types of running shoes out there on the market, it can be difficult to narrow it down to a shoe that is perfect for your unique style of running. I would classify the Reebok Floatride Energy 3 as a Goldilocks style of shoe.

It is able to easily transition from short tempo runs to speedy sets in the blink of an eye. If you are new to running and want something that is super comfortable and versatile that won’t break the bank, this is a great choice.

While it’s built for newer runners, there is plenty of features that experienced runners will appreciate. The durable outsole and simple yet adaptive midsole provide quick and snappy toe-offs without altering your gait cycle. It’s a very simple shoe in all of the best ways.

FIT

It’s important to note that this shoe runs a tad long. If you are a size 9 in other Reebok running shoes, you may want to opt for a half size smaller than you typically wear to ensure that these shoes fit like a glove.

Offering plenty of room in the toe box is great, but if it fits too long you will have a bit of a problem tinkering with the laces to find that perfect locked-down fit. If you can, I recommend heading to your local shoe store to give them a test run before you buy them.

The enhanced lacing system allows runners to tinker with the overall fit of this shoe, and the improved upper contours to the shape of your foot.

What I also love about the overall fit of this shoe is that it also has a stiff heel counter and ample padding the increased lockdown while surrounding your feet in 360 degrees of plush padding.

PRICE

The Reebok Floatride Energy 3 is proof that good running shoes don’t have to drain your bank account. It’s not packed with advanced features or a complicated modern design, but the simple materials that are used in the construction of this shoe are done right.

Even with a very modest price point, this running shoe is able to tackle hundreds of high-quality miles with its incredibly durable and versatile rubber outsole, and the responsive midsole construction keeps those miles light and bright.
Comparisons to Previous Versions

Comparisons to Previous Versions

The Reebok Floatride Energy 2 was fine, but it lacked a certain spark that many runners love. The previous design of this shoe had a stiff upper that didn’t quite hit the mark. It wasn’t very breathable, and unless you had a very specific foot, the upper often felt a little clumsy.

Reebok completely redesigned the built of the upper to provide a more contoured fit. It has an improved lacing system to help craft that perfect locked-down fit, and a semi-gusseted togue with plenty of padding for a smoother overall ride.

Reebok also swapped out the rounded laces that never wanted to stay tied with flatlock laces that stay put once laced. Sure, it’s a small change, but it makes a big difference.

Performance-wise, this shoe is softer and more energetic than previous iterations. It’s made from the exact same Floatride Energy Foam, but something about the construction feels a little different. Previous versions were incredibly firm, while this addition feels a little softer underfoot and more springy while running.

Overall, the changes made to this updated Floatride Energy design make it more comfortable, durable, and breathable than previous interactions of the shoe. Runners loved the Reebok Floatride Energy 2, and now there is a little bit more to love with the rollout of the Foatride Energy 3!
Verdict

There as so many types and styles of running shoes out there on the market that it can feel overwhelming to narrow it down to one style of shoe that matches your unique style of running. New runners will love the super-cushioned midsole and contour upper that is perfect for nice and easy tempo runs. Veteran runners appreciate the durable rubber outsole and simple design that adapt to their unique gait cycle.

What I also love about the design of this shoe is that it is simple and supportive enough to tackle weather you can throw at it. While it’s great on the sidewalks, trails, and even slick grass, it’s also a fantastic gym shoe.
