Positive
  • I have bought these two times and they are my favorite hiking shoes. They are great and super cushioned, which works well with really rocky trails. They have great grip and work well in water and wet conditions. The tread design seems a bit sketchy with all the glue but I haven't had any issues yet.
  • I got these a half size bigger. They are really great shoes and they have a lot of cushioning. Asics always wins with me; I really do love them.
  • They fit as they were expected to. They have been awesome on the trails, no rolling or slipping. The soles have been holding up really great with all the rough terrain. My kid thinks the colors are rad, bg plus. Great shoe for a great price.
  • I have used these a lot on all types of surfaces and they have proven to be super versatile. They are really stable and have a great grip and traction to them. The laces stay in place and don't ever get too loose. They have a great toe box and fit like they are supposed to. I will be getting these again.
  • Asics are the best shoes I have ever purchased, they always fit right and never give me issues. These are so comfortable and light. I have had two blown knees and am a big dude and Asics never allow for the pain to creep in. They have some really super grip to them and make a loud noise. My mistake, they are trail shoes. Oh well, great shoes and super comfy.
  • These are really comfortable and great shoes. They do let water in too easily I feel and the treads wear down really fast. They did last a year though and I am gonna say I was more active than normal.
  • I am in love with the designs. The colors are great. I really walk a lot and these are so supportive and comfortable. These were perfect to size. Great, great shoe.
  • These are perfect for off trail. I little bit wonky for normal wear. They really have great support on the trails for my plantars. I have had no issues. They have great traction and I feel really secure.
  • I loved these from the first grip. I am so satisfied with these. They have proven to be a perfect light trail shoe. They are secure and supportive and have not given me any ankle rolls, which am prone to. They have a great profile and style as well. Great arch support and all over shoe!
  • This shoe is super stable and really grippy. I took it on all sorts of terrain in all sorts of weather for a two week trip and I am impressed; not one issue. These didn't even bother my bothersome bunion, Frank(I named it); he is accompanied by really flat feet. These are just great shoes with a great price, super affordable.
  • I would have given these 5 stars but the laces suck; they do not stay tied long, they are too thick. For a first time Asics buy, I am impressed and will be looking into other shoes by them.
  • These give super support and keep me active although I have gained so much weight. These are holding up to the pounds. They are good with gripping and hold onto the ground really well on the trails. The keep my from twisting my knees and ankles well.
  • I am so pleased with these. I have been using them for work at the hospital and although that is not what they were made for, they are fan-freaking-tastic. They are super comfy and really easy to clean surprisingly. They are super durable and are holding up nice to the pounding I give them daily. I am very active with work and life. Great shoe. Laces seem really durable too.
  • These Shoes kept me upright in the Colorado Rockies, no issues. They even gripped in the sand, WOW! They also were super cozy and supportive on the inside. These are a great shoe and I am so happy they make these. Thanks Asics or another great product.
  • These are a bit more stiff than the Brooks I am used to but I think they are breaking in nice. These are very light and keep me moving with no pain. They feel really secure and stable on the trails. I definitely recommend these over any other shoe on the market. Great for the price too.
  • I always know Asics will fit just right and these proved as so again. They are the whole package: light, comfortable, stable, supportive. Great shoe Asics.
  • These came in looking and feeling just as they were described too. They have phenomenal tractiona and don't skimp on the comfort either. They are magically light and supportive all rolled into one shoe. They are so wonderful and I will we buying again.
  • Lightweight and super comfortable. These have to be the closest thing to perfect I have ever found in a trail/hiking shoe. THey don't make my feet sweat either, I hate when that is an issue and your feet slide around. After they dry I can usually just dust them of and they look great.
  • These work great for all levels of trails. They have great stability and keep me mobile without tripping and slipping. They are very comfortable and I couldn't ask for a better shoe to hike in. I replaced the laces, they were the worst.
  • These fit great a half size smaller. I feel so safe in these with every type of surface and they seem to be holding up well. THey are exceptional in the rain and all wet surfaces. First Asics I have bought and I will be buying more. Great shoe and design.
  • I loved these so much I bought two more right off the bat. These are so comfortable. I just love Asics. I am a huge dude, heavy and hard on my shoes. They always hold up. I am gonna try trailing now and hope these are just as good.
  • Best trail shoes I have ever worn. The gel inner is incredible. I never thought that a trail shoe could be so light and comfortable. I am so happy with these.
  • The color and style are great. They are just as comfortable and stable. The tread is great and grips amazing on all surfaces. I dropped Nike because of these shoes. Asics are the Bomb.com.
Negative
  • After using these for a few days, the sole was complete garbage. It separated from the she. All I did was walk around in them. I really was shocked that it was pure glue on the treads. Horrible design. Waste of money DO NOT BUY.
  • I have bought many Asics shoes and never had a pair fall apart like this. I have barely worn them and not even taken them on the trail yet. The sole is garbage!
  • We are a family of Asics fans but the Scrams are horrible. The side foam is no good and has disintegrated. They sole is complete garbage and is now hazard. It separated and is talking. Garbage shoe and horrible design.
  • No durability at all. I have only used these a few times on very mild hikes and they are peeling apart. They are really comfortable otherwise. Super disappointed. Get your crap together Asics.
  • These were way too large and even with the reviews I was simmin in these. I am not sure but these do not seem as great as people say. There was visible glue on the soles. Not sure how that would hold up on a trail!
  • These shoes were so disappointing. Got them on the trails and was all YAH, then after a few goes was all like NAYYY.. They are falling apart. I am sad because they are really cozy nd gellin' on the inside. Uhgg..Waste of Money!

Outsole
Outsole

Outsole

The outsole of any good trail running shoe has to be durable and provide ample traction to the runner. This shoe provides both of those elements. The rubber used in the creation of this outsole is Asics High Abrasion Rubber which is designed to hold up against the elements of the trail while simultaneously protecting the foot from dangerous elements found on the trail like sticks and rocks. The lug system on this shoe is unique in the lug shape. These lugs are actually reversed which helps the runner hold onto the trail whether they are slogging up a steep incline or racing downhill. The shoe received high marks for this lug system overall. Another feature that runners liked about this outsole is the flex grooves that are cut into the underfoot. Even though this shoe is durable, it is still flexible and moves naturally with the runners. Runners reported that they didn’t feel constricted or boxed in by this shoe because of the thoughtful flexibility features.
Midsole
Midsole

Midsole

The midsole foam on this shoe runs the entire length of the shoe, providing ample cushioning and support from toe-off to heel strike. In the heel of the midsole, runner can expect to find Asics’s patented Gel Cushioned system. This is a silicone gel that is placed in the heel and designed to absorb the harmful shock of each footfall. This design element protects against painful injuries to joints. The shoe also comes with a removable sock liner. Not only does this provide subtle added cushioning to the shoe, it also helps wick away sweat, keeping the foot dry and helping to regulate the temperature inside the shoe. It is also made with an anti-microbial material that fights bacteria and odor.
Upper
Upper

Upper

The upper of this shoe is designed using a breathable mesh. This material provides superior air flow to the runner and helps reduce the risk of blisters and friction by keeping the foot dry even during warm weather runs. Another feature found in the upper of the shoe is the synthetic overlays. These overlays can be found specifically around the midfoot and connect with the lacing system to support the foot and keep it from dangerous, unwanted movement inside of the shoe. Finally, Asics finished the upper off with a pull tab at the heel of the shoe. This enables the runners to quickly and efficiently get the shoe on and off without the constant need to readjust the laces.
Breathability
Breathability

Breathability

The upper of this shoe provides great breathability to the runner. Trail running can get hot and messy, and these shoes are able to provide maximum airflow to the foot to help regulate the temperature inside the shoe and keep moisture from creating painful blisters and other irritations. The upper is designed with a breathable mesh, so even though the shoe is durable, it is still able to provide a breathable ride for runners.

Weight
Weight

Weight

At 11 ounces, this shoe is about average in terms of weight for a trail running shoe. A majority of this weight comes from the Gel Cushioning System found in the heel of the shoe, and the AHAR of the outsole. Overall, runners were happy to trade a few extra ounces for the level of protection and durability that this shoe provides, but if you are looking for a super lightweight racing shoe, this is not going to be the perfect fit for you.
Comfort
Comfort

Comfort

One word that was used over and over to describe this shoe by runners was comfortable. From the upper to the outsole, the shoe does a great job of providing a cushioned, protective ride that runners felt good wearing. Due to the high comfort level, runners reported being able to run for a longer period of time without fatiguing or needing to stop due to foot discomfort.
Style
Style

Style

The look of this shoe screams rugged. It comes in a variety of different color options, but the majority of them are darker. Each also comes with a unique camouflage design. This element can be found on the upper of some, while in others it is uniquely placed along the midsole or the outsole. Runners love the versatile options and felt ready to tackle the trails in this rugged looking adventure shoe.
Durability
Durability

Durability

One of the key durability features of this shoe is Asics’s use of their patented AHAR outsole. This outsole rubber is a highly abrasive, durable material that is designed to hold up against the aggressive conditions found on the trail. Likewise, the full-length midsole foam is also designed to keep its shape and cushioning for an extended amount of time, regardless of how many miles runner put on these shoes. Even the upper is designed to last. It has synthetic overlays that reinforce the breathable mesh. This keeps the shoe looking newer longer and helps protect against fraying and the development of holes.
Protection
Protection

Protection

Runners felt safe and secure running in the Asics Gel Scram 3 for a variety of reasons. One of the features that reviewers appreciated was the Gel Cushioned System found in the heel. The gel protects the runner by absorbing the damaging shock of each footfall. In the end, runners reported less joint pain and discomfort even on long, tough runs. Another protective element is the synthetic overlays found in the upper. The overlays protect the upper of the foot as well as help secure the foot so there is no shifting in the shoe.
Responsiveness
Responsiveness

Responsiveness

This shoe does a great job of absorbing the shock from each footfall, but because of the added cushioning and higher heel drop, it is not the ideal for runners that are searching for a responsive shoe.

Support
Support

Support

There are a few key support features in this shoe. The Gel Cushioning System found in the heel of the shoe is a key part of this support system. Aside from absorbing the shock of each footfall, this silicone unit also does a great job of giving the runner a cushioned landing pad. Additionally, the synthetic overlays found in the upper of the shoe are attached to the lacing system and help lock the foot down and diminish unwanted side to side movement.

Terrain
Terrain

Terrain

This shoe is suggested for trail running, but many runners raved about its overall versatility. Although the lug system is fairly aggressive, runners still felt that this shoe was great for the occasional road run as well. In terms of which trails are best for this shoe, runners loved this shoe for light, well groomed to moderate trails. Runners loved this shoe for hiking as well but suggested avoiding very technical terrain.
Price
Price

Price

The price is certainly right with these shoes. Asics did a great job of reducing the amount of unnecessary technological design elements and streamlined the shoe to only include what was most necessary to have a durable, protective, comfortable ride. The shoe also has proven to last for a long time, making the overall value of this shoe unbeatable.
Traction
Traction

Traction

This shoe features a unique backward lug construction that is designed to provide superior traction on trails. Asics listened to its runners when they complained that the traditional lug system protects the runner on flat or even uneven surfaces, but struggles during up and downhill running. This design is specifically created to address the need of added grip on steep inclines and rugged declines. In addition, runners commented that this shoe was even able to provide good grip in wet conditions.

Flexibility
Flexibility

Flexibility

Trail shoes are often faced with the difficult decision to be either protective and durable or flexible, but the Asics Gel Scram 3 is able to do it all. This can be attributed to the breathable mesh used in the upper that moves with the foot. Additionally, the outsole features flex grooves along the underfoot that promote a natural gait cycle. These groves are carved into the outsole material to provide the runner with a freer overall movement during their run.
Stability
Stability

Stability

The Gel Scarm 3 is a neutral running shoe. It doesn’t provide additional support for the runner who tends to overpronate. It does provide a limited amount support, especially in the heel through the use of the Asicis Gel Cushioning system, but overall, it is not designed for the over- or underpronator.

Drop
Drop

Drop

The heel drop of this shoe is a traditional one, 10 millimeters. This shoe is geared towards those looking for a more cushioned protective ride. Reviewers had no issue with the drop of the shoe.
