Outsole

Outsole

New Balance made some changes to the construction of the outsole to this 5th version of the 770. The outsole features bigger treads in the center of the shoe, which gives the shoe better grip and traction. It also includes larger and deeper flex grooves in the forefoot. This increases the flexibility of the shoe. The outsole of the New Balance 770 v5 is built with a combination of Ndurance rubber and blown rubber. The Ndurance rubber protects the outsole from wear and tear in high-abrasion areas. The blown rubber is used in the forefoot area of the shoe.
Midsole

Midsole

The New Balance 770 v5 features the ACTEVA Lite midsole foam. This is an addition to the foam used in previous versions of the 770. New Balance added this foam to the midsole to help compensate for the 4 mm decrease in the heel drop. This midsole foam is lightweight and provides runners with an excellent amount of cushioning. The primary cushioning is provided by the REVlite midsole foam. This REVlite foam offers runners the soft and supportive ride they enjoy. The New Balance 770 v5 also features the ABZORB crash pad in the midsole. This feature is made of a rubber material and provides the runner with excellent shock absorption and bounce. There is a medial dual-density post to provide arch stability for those runners who are slight to moderate overpronators. This medial post keeps runners in-line and free of injuries. The New Balance 770 v5 features a removable foam insole for additional comfort.
Upper

Upper

The New Balance 770 v5 features a breathable synthetic mesh upper with midfoot locking no-sew overlays. Mesh is used in the upper of most running shoes as it keeps the runner's foot well-ventilated and it is a flexible material. The upper features the FantomFit technology. This is a feature that stayed the same from previous versions of the New Balance 770. New Balance used very thin materials through the upper with a seamless construction. A few wearers did not like the seamless construction of the shoe, saying it looked like stickers on the shoe. The goal of this design is to provide runners with a secure fit through the foot and additional support. The heel of the shoe features a structural overlay that is stitched together in a zigzag pattern. The upper includes a toe protector that is stitched over top the breathable mesh material. There is also a padded heel collar and a padded tongue. The New Balance 770 v5 comes with thin flat shoelaces, which some wearers changed out for traditional round shoelaces.

The synthetic mesh upper allows the runner’s foot to breathe and stay cool. The insert is easily removed from the shoe, which allows it to be well aired out after a run.
