4 Reasons People Work Out Wearing Sweatshirts

There are some great reasons for wearing a sweatshirt during your cardio workout, and it does not have to do with weight loss or fat loss. It bears mention that some people think wearing a sweatshirt while working out will lead to better weight loss.

Why?

Because the needle does go down on the scale. However, that is a temporary thing due to losing water weight.

Wearing a hoody while you exercise just gets you to sweat out more. Once you hydrate, the weight goes right back on.

So what are the legitimate reasons to wear a hoody while working out?

  1. Excellent Warm-Up: As you get your body ready for exercise, it pays to warm it up properly. Although you might be comfortable wearing shorts and a tank once you are warmed up, putting on an extra layer to keep the body warm is a great idea until you get to that point.
  2. Keep Your Body Loose: Keeping yourself covered is good to ensure your body stays loose if you aren’t too hot during the workout. This is yet another tactic for injury prevention.
  3. Sweating: Even though you don’t necessarily keep the weight off, there are benefits to getting a good sweat on, and a sweatshirt can help you achieve that. Sweating helps your body to release toxins.
  4. Comfort: If you are comfortable in a sweatshirt, it is what you should wear. There is no underestimating the importance of gear functionality and being comfy when you head to the gym or out for a run.

Running with a sweatshirt on does not burn more calories no matter what your scale says.

What Type of Sweatshirt is Best for Running?

There are a few types of running sweatshirts to choose from.

Crew Neck: A crew neck is good for people who find the weight and bobble of a hood to be annoying. Honestly, I know some runners will never wear one with a hood. I don’t understand it, but I guess I don’t need to.

Hooded Sweatshirt (Pullover): The classic pull-over hooded sweatshirt is a popular choice among runners because there are no zippers. If you are picking one of these, check out the strings in the hood.

You want a hoodie with strings you can tie to keep your hood in place on chilly days.

Full-Zip Sweatshirt: Some athletes prefer a full zip sweatshirt. This is nice if you may get warm and want to open things up to let some air in.

Fabric Choices: Sweatshirts can be cotton, but they also come in synthetic fibers. Synthetic fiber is good for working out.

However, if you wear the sweatshirt as a topmost layer, you can get away with cotton.

There is no clearcut answer on which style is best because personal comfort and preference are very important.
