In the following review, we will take a look at the latest incarnation of the Beast and see how well it lives up to its name.

Near personalized ride made possible through Brooks' use of its Tuned Density Midsole

Enhanced flexibility  provided by Flextra rubber and Omega Flex Grooves in the sole yielding a more confident, fluid ride.

Cons

Between smaller sizing and a narrower forefoot, runners reported that finding a proper fit was more difficult than expected.

While many feel the cost is worth it, The Beast comes in with a heftier price tag.

Outsole
Outsole

Outsole

Runners demand the very best from their shoes and it seems Brooks answers the call. For impressive traction in both wet and dry conditions and enhanced durability, the outsole utilizes Brooks' proprietary extra durable High Performance (HPR) Green rubber in the forefoot while the heel also benefits from a High Performance Rubber Plus compound. The addition of Flextra rubber offsets any loss of flexibility and Brooks claims that it even provides a more personalized experience by adapting to each runner's weight and movement for a personalized running experience.
Midsole
Midsole

Midsole

The Beast 14's midsole showcases multiple Brooks technological advancements and runners' feet will reap the benefits. Running the length of the midsole is Brooks' biodegradable environmentally friendly material, BioMoGo, which impressed runners with its resilient cushioning. Besides the softer ride, the key additive in the BioMoGo responsible for breaking down exponentially quicker than standard EVA rubber making it a wise choice for the environmentally conscious runner. Increasing flexibility is the aim of the Omega Flex Grooves and the stable and secure fit is courtesy of another innovative feature _ the Progressive Diagonal Rollbar (PDRB). The PDRB incorporates a wedge-shaped tri-density foam that provides a stable and secure fit to assist with reducing moderate to severe overpronation.
One of the most acclaimed components in Brooks' arsenal is its DNA cushioning support system that promises to deliver a personalized ride for increased comfort and confidence. With its adaptive highly viscous liquid, the system provides real-time adjustments for each runner's specific biomechanics, weight, pace, and gait. The reviews indicate it does the job - and well. This customized fit is only enhanced by Brooks' Segmented Crash Pad that efficiently absorbs shock and encourages a smoother heel-to-toe transition for more solid running adventures.
Upper
Upper

Upper

The upper of the Brooks Beast 14 keeps feet cool and dry with its light weight breathable Element mesh. This unique mesh increases air circulation promoting better moisture management. And with the synthetic overlays, the upper proves to be extremely durable. Complimenting the upper's mesh, the smooth sock liner also offers moisture resistance. In addition, runners reported that Brooks’ all new internal support saddle delivered a more secure and solid fit. And to keep you pounding out the miles with confidence, the upper works in harmony with the DNA material found in the midsole to keep your feet well-cushioned and impressively stable.
Weight
Weight

Weight

With so many features jammed into the Beast 14, it's no wonder the Beast weighs in at a heftier
13.8 ounces for men and 12.2 ounces for women. While it is tipping the scales a bit as a heavier shoe, runners have come to trust Brooks to preserve the integrity of its shoes without compromising important features for a small savings on weight. Also, many larger runners are non-plussed by the extra heft as it feels more substantial and provides a comfortable ride. With the moisture management system, runners will not have to contend with the added weight of waterlogged shoes. The fact that this shoe is notably responsive with all the features in the sole help offset the weight and many feel 13.8/12.2 ounces is a small sacrifice for all the benefits afforded, and so will you as you tear through your miles.
Breathability
Breathability

Breathability

There are a several factors at play improving the breathability of the Brooks Beast 14. With its impressive moisture management system and the Element Mesh upper, even the warmest of temperatures is no match. Runners found that it provided unprecedented air ventilation in a number of conditions. Pair this with a premium sock liner that wicks away moisture and a highly breathable running shoe is born. Brooks are well known for designing shoes that offer good air circulation and that are free of hotspots. And the lightweight EVA cushioning prevents hot air pockets from forming to keep your feet cool and dry.
Comfort
Comfort

Comfort

Brooks’ Beast 14 running shoe keeps the tradition alive by continuing to provide runners with great comfort. Runners reported being pleasantly surprised because the feel was so soft, yet supportive. That has been provided thanks in part to the adaptive nature of the sole and the supremely cushioned design in the heel and forefoot, which are reported to be much improved from Brooks’ previous generations. The overlays in the toe area create a tighter glove-like fit and the overlays that were removed from the rear sole gave the heel more movement but still yielded a stable enough fit for most. However, sizing on this incarnation seems to run small and some are turned off by the narrower toe and wider heel.

There’s also felt that the Beast 14 is extremely accommodating for the forefoot, mid-foot and medium-sized heel. There’s no question that Brooks paid extra special attention to providing a well cushioned design and they were very successful in providing that for runners.
Style
Style

Style

With its clean lines and stylish but yet understatedly elegant design, the Beast 14 comes in a pleasing combination of colors. Available colors include mars/anthracite/silver, silver/black/gold, and electric/pavement/silver. The majority of the color is found on the segmented crash pad, which is available in dark colors, light colors, and an attractive shade of red. Runners also appreciated an option to have the Brooks’ logo in a golden color. By all appearances, the Brooks Beast 14 is a serious running shoe with a classy appeal.
Durability
Durability

Durability

The combination of a solid upper and with the HPR rubber outsole among the sturdiest on the market, many feel that the Beast 14 will survive countless miles. Runners were extremely impressed with how well it withstands punishment. The breathability of the shoe factors in here as well as shoes need to properly ventilate to last and the Element mesh in the upper does a decent job of this. Some feel that the midsole wears downs a little sooner than expected. Needless to say, reliability is important and a shoe that can go the distance for as long as you can take it is important to any serious runner. The Brooks Beast 14 has the potential to outlast any other running shoe in the same product category and are tough enough for everyday regular use. It seems that there’s nothing that these shoes can’t handle.
Responsiveness
Responsiveness

Responsiveness

One of the most impressive features in terms of responsiveness is the Extended Progressive Diagonal Rollbar that sits in the midsole to discourage extra foot roll providing added stability. This feature is especially attractive for those runners that overpronate. Runners felt that this shoe met their demands addressing a wide variety of critical aspects in regards to responsiveness. With it's Omega Flex Grip, its tailor-made ride, and the Flextra in the sole, this shoe responds well on most terrain. While not a trail shoe, this shoe can perform admirably on less technical ground. The transition between flat running grounds and uphill battles to varying levels of debris found on more technical courses, allow the Brooks Beast 14 to get it done with minimal effort.
Support

Support

The Beast 14 comes with unmatched arch support. Runners enjoyed the latest incarnation of the running shoe that has long been known for its ultra-supportive ride and sturdy construction. Runners with severe over-pronation and flat arches flock to this shoe for a reason. Some runners claim they are excellent shoes for those suffering from chronic knee pain. The amount of thickness makes the insole extremely well padded, and also creates perfect under-arch support, which most flatter foot runners seem to enjoy. Runners not only felt more comfortable but also better protected. The BioMoGo adaptable cushioning and the rollbar lend themselves to more confident and stable descents with more proper form thereby potentially reducing injury. In addition, These features, in addition to the sole's rubber compound, helped increase traction and confidence in wet conditions.
