How To Make Your Own Vegan Protein Powder
Athletes know the importance of taking in protein soon after a workout to aid in recovery. Do you know that many athletes skip this step because they are busily moving from one thing to the other? This is why protein powders have risen in popularity. However, protein powders can be expensive and full of ingredients you can’t pronounce.
If you try to only put things you can pronounce and spell into your body, making your own protein powder may be just what you need! With many people trying to limit their intake to ingredients they are familiar with, homemade vegan protein powder may be just the solution you are looking for!
Can you really do it yourself when it comes to protein powder? You bet you can!
Why Make Your Own Vegan Protein Powder?
As mentioned, if you make your own vegan protein powder you have control over what you put into it. This can be beneficial for many reasons. First, if you’re trying to put all-natural things into your body, this way you have control!
vegansfirst.comYou can modify recipes to find a recipe you are crazy about, as a second perk! Sometimes in a store-bought powder it just doesn’t taste quite right. Have you ever found yourself mixing together a couple of powders for just the right flavor? Now, you are in total control!
Third, DIY vegan protein powder is easy on the pocketbook! That’s right. You can make homemade protein powder for a fraction of the cost of its store-bought counterpart.
Things You Might Need
If you are making your own powder, you will need a way to blend the ingredients up. A coffee grinder is a perfect tool for this; however, you can also use a strong blender.
homegearx.comIf you are worried your blender might not be hefty enough to grind up your items of choice, you can toast the items ahead of time, allow to cool, then blend away. Voila! You are one step closer to homemade vegan protein powder!
Another option is to use softer ingredients, such as quinoa or oats, but don’t be afraid to experiment and try new items!

Adding Flavor?
When you are making your own vegan protein powder, the sky is the limit for flavorings. Any spice you have on hand can be added. Some favorites include cinnamon and nutmeg. A bit of sugar can go a long way toward adding some sweet to your smoothie. Other thoughts are cocoa or dry coconut.
smoothieshakedown.comIf you’re looking to add flavorings during blending, you have more options. Any type of fruit can be added to a blender to give your recovery drink a smoothie flavor.
The Perfect Recovery Drink
When trying to create your perfect recovery drink, no two individuals have the same preference. Some people like a thicker drink, some thinner. Most prefer it cold and find that if you add ice that helps with taste.
If you’re working at perfecting your favorite, there are some basic things to consider.
Liquid:
You need some type of liquid for the recovery drink. Sure, you can mix your powder with water but that likely isn’t the best taste.
Some excellent options include almond, oat or coconut milk, coconut water or juices. Depending on what your tastes are, you can experiment.
Add-Ins:
In addition to the aforementioned flavor boosters, such as spices, you can add other things to your recovery drink. A handful of spinach, for example, adds a ton of vitamins without changing the taste. This is great way to get a dose of greens with very little effort.
You can also add any type of groundnut or seed for flavor. Also, you can add yogurts made from coconut or almond milk. These not only add flavor and protein but can also give your smoothie a lovely texture.

Believe it or not, you can make your own homemade vegan protein powder with real food ingredients you can find in any local health food store. Sure, it will take a little of your time upfront to grind the ingredients. Also, it may not taste just like something out of the jar right off the bat. You may need to tweak and perfect the ingredients to find a flavor that makes your tastebuds happy. But isn’t knowing exactly what you are putting into your body worth that extra effort.
