Editor's Pros & Cons
Super Lightweight design
Comfortable and breathable ArmourVent™ mesh upper
Reinforced, high-abrasion rubber outsole
Molded 4D Foam® footbed
- TPU curve for extra support and stability
Durability concerns in some areas
Some runners may find it lacking support
The outsole of the Under Armour SpeedForm Apollo Vent is comprised of an anatomical design that looks to mimic the natural outline of the human foot. Under Armour has also added high-abrasion rubber inserts on key areas of the outsole to enhance durability and traction. This is a smart move to only add rubber to the most highly worn areas of the shoe. The lack of excessive outsole rubber helps to significantly reduce the overall weight of the shoe. The downside of this is that some runners may find the lack of rubber to result in a more slick surface. Most runners should find it to be enough grip and traction for most of the common running surfaces that runners come in contact with. But those looking for ultimate traction should look elsewhere.
The midsole of the Under Armour SpeedFrom Apollo Vent is packed with even more features and technology. The Micro G cushioning that has become one of the trademarks of an Under Armour shoe, is also found in the midsole. This provides great cushioning along with explosive feedback to minimize wasted energy. The fit of the shoe is also enhanced with the inclusion of a 6 mm non-removable sockliner that molds to the outline of the runner’s foot. This perfect fit makes the shoe feel more comfortable over time. The combination of the Micro G cushioning and the sockliner make for an amazing midsole experience that will leave runners very happy with the fit of the shoe.
The upper material used for this shoe is a lightweight, breathable mesh. This is designed to be both breathable and quick-drying. Under Armour calls this updated technology ArmourVent™. This will be a nice upgrade to those runners who are coming from the similar Under Armour SpeedForm Apollo 2. The breathability of these shoes are quite impressive and these uppers prove to be perfect for sweaty, warm weather runs. The multi-layer synthetic upper is moisture wicking. This technology comes from the world of apparel where Under Armour is a major player. They’ve gone even further by using smooth, ultrasonic welded seaming with Bemis tape for next-to-skin support & comfort which helps avoid friction points or “hot spots”.
This shoe is designed to be lightweight and supportive. It weighs in at only 6.75 oz. This has it up there with some of the best lightweight running shoes and it is certainly respectable for all of the features you’re getting for this weight. Under Armour was able to achieve a great balance of a shoe with many features that manages to still come in a lightweight package. Runners looking for a super lightweight training companion with lots of comfort will be very pleased with the SpeedForm Apollo Vent.
Breathability is extremely important in a running shoe and Under Armour did not disappoint in this area when creating the SpeedForm Apollo Vent. The upper material is engineered of a lightweight breathable mesh that they call ArmourVent™. This gives the potential for lots of airflow into and out of the shoe.
The Under Armour SpeedForm Apollo Vent is a very comfortable shoe. The full-length Micro G® foam gives it a comfortable feel without sacrificing too much support. Energy is not wasted with the responsiveness of the foam cushioning. Each step feels well-supported and the foot is propelled forward naturally. Under Armour has also included a seamless heel cup with a silicone grip for an anatomical fit that keeps the heel in place. The molded 4D Foam® footbed helps conform to the exact shape of your foot. Over time this means more comfort, and less slippage even when running without socks.
Style is a difficult subject to quantify. With the Under Armour SpeedForm Apollo Vent, the style preference will be in the eye of the wearer. Under Armour has grown tremendously in the athletic shoe marketplace by creating stylish shoes that blend performance and fashion. Most runners will be quite pleased with the design of the SpeedForm Apollo Vent. It comes in subtle color options that allow for the runner to blend in rather than stand out. The low profile design helps blend in with different situations. The shoe also has some subtle reflectivity to give both function and fashion for a futuristic look. The Under Armour logo is always very subtle and tasteful on their shoes. Runners who are fans of brightly colored shoes will certainly love the black and electric yellow option while those looking for something more subdued can opt for the white and black style.
Durability is a huge component to weigh when looking to buy a pair of running shoes. Under Armour has addressed this concern with their rubber outsole. The grooves found in the outsole design help to disperse the impact of each stride so that one area is less likely to break down sooner. They have added high-abrasion rubber inserts in the areas of the outsole that are prone to breaking down quicker. The only downside to this is that there are large portions of the outsole that don’t feature the high-abrasion rubber. Some of these spots may see premature wear faster than expected.
The Under Armour SpeedForm Apollo Vent should do well in the protection department. The high-abrasion rubber outsole is the main form of protection from the high-impact areas of the foot. Runners will also appreciate the full-length Micro G® foam in the midsole. A breathable mesh upper protects the ankle and upper portion of the shoe from the elements as well.
The responsiveness found in the Under Armour SpeedFrom Apollo Vent mainly comes from the Full-length Micro G® foam found along the midsole of the shoe. This helps the runner transfer their momentum from one stride to the next. The responsiveness is also aided by the molded sock liner that conforms to the runner’s foot. When the liner is properly connected to the contours of the foot, there is more responsiveness and less wasted motion and instability within the shoe. Pair that with the seamless heel cup that helps keep the foot in place, and you’re looking at a very responsive ride no matter what type of stride you have.
The Under Armour SpeedForm Apollo Vent has a solid amount of support for such a lightweight training shoe. The midsole of the shoe features a TPU curve for extra support and stability. The upper is slightly flexible but keeps the ankle supported throughout the run. Under Armour has also provided a seamless heel cup that supports the rear of the foot and protects against heel pain. Finally, the flex grooves and cushioning found throughout the outsole of the shoe are really the biggest source of support. Regardless of whether you’re a heel striker or a forefoot striker, these grooves support each stride and disperse the impact felt by the foot. Of course, those runners who are looking for additional support may want to try some extra tools that provide arch support.
The Under Armour SpeedForm Apollo Vent is a shoe designed for versatility in training on the road and the track. Its is great for pavement training because of its light weight and high breathability. Runners will be able to confidently run through soft trails and gravel. It’s not recommended to take these shoes on more demanding trails that feature uneven terrain or rugged features like jagged rocks, roots, or ice. Those looking for a more traditional trail running shoe should look elsewhere.
Under Armour shoes don’t fall into the discount shoe category. However, the features offered within this shoe are more than comparable for the higher price.
Traction isn’t the strongest area for the Under Armour SpeedForm Apollo Vent Disrupt but it should suit most people. Runners will be pleased with the traction provided on the bottom of the outsole by the high-abrasion rubber but there are still areas of the outsole without this treatment. The spots between the rubber inserts could get slick on wet terrain. It’s not recommended to take these shoes into extremely slippery situations where ice and snow are involved. However, the traction should be sufficient for light mud or loose gravel. These shoes are designed to perform best on dry pavement or a track, and that’s where you’ll get the best running experience.
The Under Armour SpeedForm Apollo Vent are highly flexible shoes. The Full-length Micro G® foam used in the midsole is particularly bouncy and flexible. The breathable mush upper material is also flexible enough to move with the foot. Where the flexibility of the shoe really comes through is in the flex grooves found on the outsole of the shoe. These grooves bend and flex with each stride in order to provide a more comfortable, supportive ride.
The stability in the Under Armour SpeedForm Apollo Vent comes mainly from the seamless heel cup. This helps support the rear portion of the show while keeping the heel secure using a silicone grip. There will be less internal foot movement and the heel remains in place. Fortunately, the flex grooves in the outsole of the shoe also help to keep the shoe balanced and stable when covering different types of terrain. Also, there is added stability found in the upper material of the shoe. The breathable mesh upper hugs the ankle and forefoot in a way that stabilizes the movement of the foot. To top things off, Under Armour has added a TPU curve that gives extra support and stability to the midfoot.
The Under Armour SpeedForm Apollo Vent has a heel-to-toe drop of 8mm. This is an average drop for a running shoe but it will feel particularly substantial to any runners who are used to one of the many 0 drop shoe options. The drop may feel even more pronounced due to the flex grooves found on the bottom of the outsole. Those who are looking for a more neutral feeling will want to look elsewhere for a shoe with a much lower heel-to-toe drop.

The Under Armour SpeedForm Apollo Vent offers a ton of technology that will be well-received by serious runners looking for lightweight speed and support. Under Armour was able to keep the weight extremely low while still delivering a complete set of features. The full-length Micro G® foam cushioning will be greatly appreciated as a source of support and stability. The low profile and subtle color options of the shoe will appeal to a wide range of runners who are looking for a stylish shoe.
